Valentine’s Day 2022: Sightly More Optimistic Holliday

Now if you remember, last year we focused on unusual and unorthodox Valentine’s Day movies. Indeed. Movies that don’t really scream romance and eternal love. Why? Well, because we saw them as fitting for the unusual and very strange year that we were living in.

However, we’re slightly more optimistic for 2022. And for the celebration of Valentine’s Day in 2022. But! Don’t forget! There’s still a raging global pandemic out there, so be careful. Celebrate with caution and yes. Have fun.

So, let’s get down to the point. What’s the point of this Valentine’s Day 2022 article?

Valentine’s Day 2022: A Mix Of TV, Movie and Gaming Picks

As you can probably tell by the title of this article, there’s a nice mix of options that you can have this Valentine’s Day. A mix of TV, movie and gaming picks that you can choose to watch and play with your significant other. And while not all of them are unorthodox, we did put some unusual picks here as well. Hope you’ll like them. Let’s start, shall we?

From the movie pick portion of this article…. We’re starting with…

Marry Me

A classic rom-com with Jennifer Lopez in the leading role. Because why not? It’s a brand-new movie and it’s perfect for Valentine’s Day. Not to mention, it has Owen Wilson as her love interest. It’s a nice pace for him. Instead of chasing after Loki, he’s now perusing JLo. And yes. JLO is Katalina “Kat” Valdez in Marry Me. A successful pop star who decides to marry a stranger holding a “Marry Me” sign (Owen Wilson). After learning that her on-stage partner Bastian (Maluma) has been having an affair the entire time that they were together. Why not give it a shot? It might surprise you.

Fun fact: Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson also starred together in the film Anaconda (1997).

A Star Is Born

It’s a musical romantic drama, but it’s one for the ages. Indeed. It’s the fourth cinematic telling of the classic story, but this time with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga in the leads. But yeah. Cooper plays Jackson “Jack” Maine. A famous country-rock singer who’s also battling a drug and alcohol addiction. However, things will turn a turn once he meets Lady Gaga’s Ally character. A talented singer in her own right. But his demons will, unfortunately, dominate and yes. You’re in for a lot of uncontrollable sobbing moments.

Fun fact: The choreographer in the movie is Lady Gaga’s real-life choreographer, Richy Jackson.

From the TV portion of this article… Let’s start with…

Love

Not that many of you have heard of this TV show right? Well, it should be on your Valentine’s Day radar, despite being canceled after 3 seasons. It has Gillian Jacobs and Paul Rust in the lead roles, and as you can probably tell it deals with love. It’s in the title after all. Or rather how several single people are trying to find love in today’s confusing dating scene. It’s honest, it’s sweet and yes. At times it’s romantic. Not to mention it’s co-created by Judd Apatow and it deserves your attention.

Fun fact: Gillian Jacobs plays Mickey Dobbs who suffers from alcoholism on the show. In reality, Gillian is a teetotaler and practices complete personal abstinence from alcoholic beverages and drugs.

Outlander

In honor of the upcoming 6th season of Outlander, why not suggest for you binge on the previous 5 seasons? Caitríona Balfe is still stunning as ever, and Sam Heughan’s Jamie Fraser is not too shabby either. Yes, and despite plenty of setbacks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the 6th season’s trailer was announced. The trailer shows Jamie and Claire’s peaceful life at Fraser’s Ridge being threatened by the looming Revolutionary War, and yes. Season six will be eight episodes, including a 90-minute premiere episode.

Fun fact: Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser in the series, is naturally blond in real life. Since the character has red hair in the books, he has to dye his hair periodically to play a redhead in the series.

And last but certainly not least… From the video game portion of this article… Let’s start with…

Days Gone

An open-world adventure game that’s set in a pandemic is a good pick for Valentine’s Day? It sure it. It has a romantic undertone throughout and I had the pleasure of playing it last year. You can read my Days Gone Filmaholic Review here. But in Days Gone, a former outlaw-turned-drifter Deacon St. John discovers his wife Sarah, having been assumed dead, may still be alive. And goes on a quest to find her. You have nice flashback/cut scenes with the two of them together, and in those scenes, you can see the progression of their relationship. It’s a really good game.

Days Gone is available for purchase here at IndieGala. Get it now.

Fun fact: The word “zombie” never appears in the game. Instead, the infected are called “freaks, swarmers, newts, breakers, runners” etc.

The Dark Pictures Anthology

Here’s a rather different pick. Or should I say, a pick for a rather different reason? Furthermore, Supermassive Games’ Dark Pictures Anthology is currently made up of Man of Medan, Little Hope & House of Ashes. And yes. While you can play both games with one player in the driver’s seat as it were. But here’s the beauty of these games. The Dark Pictures Anthology also offers two multiplayer modes. Movie Night, which allows you and your beloved to divvy up the characters between you. And Shared Story which sees you both playing co-op online with other players. We advise going for Movie Night, so you can share the experience of shouting at each other when someone makes a character decision that sees a horny teen being killed off. Try it this Valentine’s Day.

The Dark Pictures Anthology is available for purchase here at IndieGala. Get it here.
