Rugby 20 Game

Hello, Rugby fans. We have another great article for you. The Rugby 20 game is currently on sale, so we thought we’d honor not just this particular game. But the sport itself too.

But it’s not like we’ve never honored Rugby 20 before. Just last year we made a list of great Rugby movies (check it out here). And we loved every single one of them. Oh yes. But we also loved the other sports simulator games. Such as the Golf simulator game (available here), the basketball simulator game (here) and the football simulator game (here).

But that’s not all. When it comes to the sport of rugby, the Rugby 20 game is not the only one we have to offer. Pro Rugby Manager 2015 is another great game to have. It’s available for purchase here. And so is Rugby Blood. You can get it here.

Which Movies Go Well With The Rugby 20 Game?

Here’s the kicker. Unlike the last year’s article, we’re going to focus mostly on one specific genre of movies here. Indeed. This article contains mostly documentaries, and yes. Four additional movies to compliment last year’s article. We hope that we’ll expand your horizons with this new batch of movies, and we also hope that we’ll get you even more interested in this sport. So, let’s not delay this post any further and let’s share some of our picks. Scroll down to find out which ones made the cut.

Murderball

An American documentary movie about physically disabled athletes who compete in wheelchair rugby. Furthermore, Murderball centers on the rivalry between the Canadian and U.S. teams leading up to the 2004 Paralympic Games. This is a low-budget movie, which became a hit among the award circuit in the early 2000s. Not to mention it made a real star out of Mark Zupan. The member of the US rugby team who later embraced the celebrity status that this movie brought along. Oh, and the movie itself was nominated for an Oscar in the best documentary category. It’s a must-watch movie for every rugby fan out there.

Fun fact: Keith Cavill was discovered at a rehabilitation center.

Scrum

A slightly different documentary but one that involves rugby nonetheless. However, the movie follows the lives of three separate individuals. Indeed. It follows the lives of a self-assured Canadian jock. Next of a rookie Irish backpacker and a stoic Japanese outsider. The opinions about the role of LGBT people in sports will change with this movie. But for the most part, you’ll get realistic and intimate people of several athletes that are doing what they love. Playing rugby.

Fun fact: “Scrum“ (the title of the movie) technically refers to restarting a play in order to gain control of the ball.

The Ground We Won

Another documentary from 2015, but this time one that’s coming from New Zeeland. That’s right. The Ground We Won is a black and white documentary about an eclectic rugby team of farmers. They strive to redeem themselves from a long run of bitter losses. And at the same time, this is a cinema verité study of contemporary manhood. As observed through the rites and rituals of a rural New Zealand rugby club. It’s a great movie and it deserves your attention.

Fun fact: The team behind the movie also created the award-winning New Zealand documentary How Far is Heaven.

The Rugby Player

The Rugby Player is a bit more personal movie. It explores the life of one rugby player (as opposed to a whole team). That’s right. The film explores the lives of Mark Bingham. One of the passengers of United Flight 93 on 9/11, and his mother, Alice Hoagland, a former United Airlines flight attendant. THE RUGBY PLAYER is an intimate portrait of how a son’s heroism can inspire a nation. And how a mother’s love can turn a profound loss into unshakable resolve. It’s a touching movie and it deserves your attention as well.

Fun fact: It is believed that Mark was one of the passengers who apparently fought with the hijackers on the doomed flight. Although we’ll never know this for certain.
