I gotta admit. Police Simulator: Patrol Officers is a first for me. Although I did had my fair share of writing about police officers before. Chicken Police had animated detectives in it (check it out here), while Rebel Cops had mostly dirty, corrupted cops (available here). However, the closest I’ve ever come with the buddy cops sub-genre was with the This Is The Police article (you’re welcome). Yup. In that particular article, I explored the appeal and charm of modern-day buddy cop movies. And what’s so special about them.

However here in Police Simulator: Patrol Officers I’m going to name some of them. Indeed. I’m going to indulge in my well-known list of cool, thematic movies and I’m so excited. However, I simply can’t go any further without the necessary introduction of Police Simulator: Patrol Officers.
What’s Police Simulator: Patrol Officers All About?
Developed by Aesir Interactive and published by Astragon Entertainment, Police Simulator: Patrol Officers is a fun and exciting simulator game. And a game in which you get to become a member of the police force. That’s right!
To Serve And Protect!
Join the police force of this fictitious American city (Brighton) and experience the day-to-day life of a police officer. Start with citing violations and giving out parking tickets. Next work your way towards shouldering more responsibilities. And you get to be part of the community of Brighton. Get to know your neighborhood and handle daily police work to fight crime during your shift. Always be tough, but fair. Respect the law and gain more experience to unlock more neighborhoods, districts and duties.
Furthermore, the game includes a dynamic traffic system that organically creates traffic flow and car accidents. As well as emergencies that can randomly pop up during your shift. Be ready to react at a moment’s notice!

Lethal Weapon
It wouldn’t be a buddy cop movie list without Lethal Weapon, now would it?. But all joking aside, the Lethal Weapon franchise is one of the best buddy cop series of all time. Who can forget LAPD’s finest detective Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) and Roger Murtaigh (Danny Glover)? They’re polar opposites, but they somehow manage to work great together. Fighting bad guys, solving crime and trying not to kill each other in the process. Richard Donner’s 1987 classic is still a classic today because it’s hilarious, fun and because the lead actors have such incredible chemistry on the screen.
Fun fact: First movie to show a modern cell phone. A portable Radio Shack Model 17-1003, launched circa 1986 (close to the filming dates of the movie).
The Nice Guys
Another project in which two polar opposites are forced to work together. But this one comes from the very complicated mind of Shane Black. I know, I just mentioned him in my Predator article, but he bears repeating here as well. Why? Because he created this gem of a movie. The Nice Guys is hilarious, smart and downright insightful. But it also gives us a fun, neo-noir glimpse into the heyday of the 70’s porn industry.
Something that Paul Thomas Anderson did in more detail back in the day. Russel Crowe and Ryan Gosling are the Nice Guys here. A pair of private investigators who are trying to solve a murder and a lot of other stuff. However, don’t get fooled by Crowe and Gosling. Kim Basinger is in it too, and so is Matt Bomer. They’re good. Really good. It’s a must-watch movie and deserves to be on this list.
Fun fact: The film opens with the mid-1970s Warner Brothers logo.
Bad Boys
Ah, a fairly decent Michael Bay movie. You don’t hear that way too often, now do ya? But hey. Bad Boys was a 90’s semi-decent attempt at the buddy cop movie genre from Bay. And dare I say it… it’s still semi-decent. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are two Miami narcotics detectives, and Tea Leoni (love here) is in it too. And despite the cool chemistry between Will and Martin, you can clearly see the usual tricks from Bay’s sleeve.
In the rest of the movie I mean. Tricsk such ass slow-motion shots, fast movement and editing, busy/complex frames and those god-awful filters. But as I mentioned, along with The Rock, this is one of the few Bay movies that I can stand so here it is on this list. And there are two sequels in the Bad Boys trilogy, but I’m just naming the first one here. Sorry, not sorry.
Fun fact: Bad Boys is the directorial debut of Michael Bay.
48 Hrs.
This is the oldest movie on this list, but it’s also one of the best. Not to mention it has Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte in the lead roles. The duo star as a cop and convict, respectively. And they both team up to catch two cop-killers that are on the loose. James Remar and Anette O’Toole are in it too, and yes. The movie is hilarious as you might expect from an Eddie Murphy movie. Walter Hill did a good job in the director’s chair, and yes. This movie is one for the books. Hey even IGN put it in the third place of best buddy cop movies. Right behind Beverly Hills Cop and Lethal Weapon. Not bad right?
Fun fact: Debut theatrical feature film of actor-comedian Eddie Murphy.
Tango and Cash
Talk about a good 80’s buddy cop movie am I right? Oh, how I adore this movie. Directed by Andrei Konchalovsky and with 2 of the best action stars of the ’80s. Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell are in fact Tango and Cash here. Two rival LAPD narcotics detectives, forced to work together after a criminal mastermind frames both of them for murder. Jack Palance plays that criminal mastermind, but the stellar cast doesn’t end there. Teri Hatcher is in it as well, and so is Deep Space Nine’s greatest Villain. Marc Alaimo. This is the perfect movie to end this list. Don’t you think? And if you’re feeling extra nostalgic, you should watch it again. It’s still awesome.
Fun fact: Patrick Swayze was originally cast as Cash, but he dropped out to star in Road House (1989).
