The new year is all about new games, new movies and new beginnings. The 2022 movies are just a small part of that hype, but we’ll offer so much more in this article. However, the main focus of this particular post are the upcoming movies that we can expect in 2022. There’s a fine selection of those but the video games will be included. After all, IndieGala wouldn’t be IndieGala without them.

2022 Movies VS Cool Games And Sales

2022 Movies: What’s Next For Hollywood?
Well, a lot actually. Some of the movies were postponed because of the Omicron strain of the Coronavirus, but those who made it in 2022 are here to stay. Hopefully. We do have a nice selection of picks here, but we already discussed some of them in our previous articles. Like the fantastic John Wick franchise and the new Batman movie. Indeed. Batman has a new man in the caped suit, but the fans will have to wait to see it.
Oh, here we go.
Uncharted
Director: Ruben Fleischer
Release date: February 18, 2022
Why not start with a video game adaptation? Well, it’s not the only one on this list, but it’s one of the most anticipated for sure. Uncharted has been postponed for so long, but 2022 is going to be the year for this franchise. Based on the video games of the same name created by Naughty Dog, Uncharted stars Tom Holland as Nathan Drake. And Mark Wahlberg as his mentor Victor Sullivan respectively. But what about the premise? Nathan Drake and his partner Victor “Sully” Sullivan go in the dangerous pursuit of “the greatest treasure never found”. While also tracking clues that may lead to Drake’s long-lost brother. Will it be good? Time will tell.
Fun fact: After finishing filming, Tom Holland began filming Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) just days later.
Morbius
Director: Daniel Espinosa
Release date: April 1, 2022
Another movie that’s been pushed back when it comes to the release. But as the title suggests, Morbius is all about… Dr. Michael Morbius. A scientist suffering from a rare blood disease whose attempts to cure himself afflict him with a form of transgenic vampirism. Jared Leto stars in the titular role, while Jared Harris and Matt Smith are on supporting role duty. We already included this movie in our Marvel projects list, but it’s good to see it here too.
Fun fact: The second trailer features the song “People Are Strange” which was previously used in the vampire movie The Lost Boys (1987).

The Batman
Director: Matt Reeves
Release date: March 4, 2022
Batman’s release date was a long and complicated process. Considering the fact that the movie went through hell and back to get it to this stadium. Just a few months from the premiere. But despite the COVID-related setbacks, in 2022 fans can enjoy a new Batman movie. With a new actor in the titular role of course. Robert Pattinson portrays Bruce Wayne but there’s a whole list of incredible actors in this reboot. Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell are just some of them.
Fun fact: Robert Pattinson auditioned for The Batman using Val Kilmer’s original Batsuit from Batman Forever (1995).
Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Release date: April 8, 2022
Another April release. And one of the few sequels on this list. But yeah. After the surprise hit that Sonic and the Hedgehog was back in 2020, here comes the sequel. But after the events of Sonic the Hedgehog (2020), Sonic stays in Green Hills. While Tom and Maddie Wachowski goes on vacation. So, when Doctor Eggman returns in search of Master Emerald with the help of Knuckles the Echidna. And yes. Sonic and his new friend Miles “Tails” Prower set out to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands. Idris Elba stars as Knuckles the Echidna, while Jim Carrey returns as Doctor Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik.
Fun fact: This is Idris Elba’s fourth voice-over role, after Zootopia (2016), The Jungle Book (2016) and Finding Dory (2016).
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Director: Sam Raimi
Release date: May 6, 2022
Speaking of great sequels… Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is a great hope that can become one. Something that Spider-Man: No Way Home was in 2021. But after 9 years of hiatus, Sam Raimi returns to directing. And after a looong time to the MCU. And in it, Dr. Stephen Strange casts a forbidden spell that opens the door to the multiverse. Including an alternate version of himself. Whose threat to humanity is too great for the combined forces of Strange, Wong, and Wanda Maximoff.
Fun fact: The film will be tied into and take place after both WandaVision (2021) and Loki (2021).
Black Adam
Director: Jaume Collet-Serra
Release date: July 29, 2022
A summer blockbuster. And a DC Comics one of that. But at the same time, intended to be a spin-off from Shazam! (2019) and the eleventh film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Not to mention, Black Adam has Dwayne Johnson in the role of Teth-Adam / Black Adam. Alongside Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, Sarah Shahi, Quintessa Swindell, and Pierce Brosnan. And who is Black Adam? An antihero from Kahndaq who was imprisoned for 5,000 years. He will become the archenemy of the superhero Shazam and shares his powers with the ancient wizard of the same name.
Fun fact: Dwayne Johnson once asked his fans which character he should play, superhero Shazam or supervillain Black Adam. His fans chose Black Adam.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore
Director: David Yates
Release date: 8 April 2022
Why not end this list with sequels? And not only that. Sequels to fabulous franchises that are still making money? Well, Fantastic Beasts is one of them. The movie is the third installment in the Fantastic Beasts film series. And the eleventh overall in the Wizarding World franchise. Set several years after the events of The Crimes of Grindelwald, it follows Albus Dumbledore tasking Newt Scamander and his allies with a mission. A mission that takes them into the heart of dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald’s army. But here’s the thing… Mads Mikkelsen replaces Johnny Depp, who portrayed the character in the previous films. Will he be able to fill the shoes of Johnny? Time will tell.
Fun fact: Johnny Depp filmed one scene before he was asked to depart. According to various media reports, because of his “pay or play” contract, he will receive his full $16m salary.
Jurassic World Dominion
Director: Colin Trevorrow
Release date: June 10, 2022
Dominion is set four years after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. A movie in which genetically engineered dinosaurs were auctioned to companies around the world. While others were released on the U.S. mainland. Mamoudou Athie, Scott Haze, Dichen Lachman, Campbell Scott, and DeWanda Wise are new additions to the cast. But The story takes place around the world and depicts humans dealing with invasive dinosaur species. Are you excited? We sure are.
Fun fact: Jeff Goldblum announced on his Instagram that he, along with Laura Dern and Sam Neill, will be in this movie.
