Thor: Love and Thunder

Release date: July 8, 2022

Director: Taika Waititi

Thor: Love and Thunder is part of Phase Four of the MCU. But at the same time, it’s a highly anticipated summer blockbuster. But the thing is, (so far) Thor is the only MCU character to have 4 stand-alone films. And yes, very little is known about the plot of the movie. However, the title design was inspired by the “sword and sorcery” subgenre. Which was especially popular in the 1980s. And here’s something fun about it. The cast features five Oscar winners: Christian Bale, Matt Damon, Natalie Portman, Taika Waititi and Russell Crowe.

Fun fact: Christian Bale is the second actor to play Batman, to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After Michael Keaton (Adrian Toomes/the Vulture) in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017).

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Release date: November 11, 2022

Director: Ryan Coogler

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is a sad and sentimental sequel in the MCU. Why? Because plans for the film changed in August 2020 when Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman died from colon cancer. And Marvel chooses not to recast his role of T’Challa. However other main cast members from the first film were confirmed to return. But yeah. The role of T’Challa would not be digitally recreated and not recast out of respect for Chadwick Boseman’s legacy.

Fun fact: Chadwick Boseman’s brother, Derrick Boseman has spoken out against the idea of retiring the character of T’Challa rather than recasting.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Specal

Release date: December 2022

Director: James Gunn

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will have its premiere next year. But in December 2022, there will be a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 special. On Disney+ of course. And the special is apparently going to introduce “one of the greatest MCU characters of all time”. According to James Gunn, that is. It’s being filmed at the same time as the third movie. So we’ll have to wait to see the special that’s for sure. Let alone the movie.

Fun fact: In Avengers: Endgame it is hinted that Thor (Chris Hemsworth) may be joining The Guardians Of The Galaxy.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Release date: May 6, 2022

Director: Sam Raimi

Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness follows the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) and the first season of Loki (2021). Furthermore, in this particular movie, Dr. Stephen Strange casts a forbidden spell that opens the door to the multiverse. Including an alternate version of Strange, whose threat to humanity is too great for the combined forces of Strange, Wong, and Wanda Maximoff.

Fun fact: This is Sam Raimi’s first directed film in 9 years, since Oz the Great and Powerful (2013).

Release date: April 1, 2022

Director: Daniel Espinosa

As the title suggests, Morbius is all about… Morbius. Dr. Michael Morbius that is… Suffering from a rare blood disease, Dr. Michael Morbius tries a dangerous cure that afflicts him with a form of vampirism. Matt Smith, Jared Harris and Michael Keaton are in the movie too, but Jared Leto takes center stage. Since he’s in the titular role of the movie. And yes. Because of the pandemic, the movie’s premiere was pushed until April 2022. Not to mention, this is the third film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universes (SSU). It’s safe to say… We can’t wait for Morbius.

Fun fact: This is Jared Leto’s second comic-book role, after playing the Joker in Suicide Squad (2016).

2022 MCU Projects: The TV Portion Is Fun Too!

Another 6 episode mini-series from the MCU. And a series will serve as a set-up for the film The Marvels (2023). But Ms. Marvel is all about Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel. A fan of the Avengers, particularly Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel.  But struggles to fit in until she gains her own powers as well. It’s a controversial character, but we’ll see how it translates to the small screen.

Fun fact: Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan) will be Marvel’s first live-action Muslim hero.

Release date: 2022

Creator: Jessica Gao

Much like the title suggests, She-Hulk is all about… She-Hulk.  Jennifer Walters that is. A lawyer who specializes in cases involving superhumans. And can become a large, powerful, green-hued version of herself, similar to her cousin Bruce Banner. Tatiana Maslany is in the titular role here, while Mark Ruffalo reprises the role of Bruce Banner. Not to mention, Tim Roth returns as Emil Blonsky / Abomination while Jameela Jamil is in the role of Titania. A rival of She-Hulk with incredible strength.

Fun fact: While at a press junket for Ghost Rider (2007), Nicolas Cage wanted to produce a She-Hulk movie. With Eva Mendes as the titular character.

Moon Knight

Release date: 2022

Creator: Jeremy Slater

Oscar Isaac is in the lead role here. That of Marc Spector. An ex-marine who suffers from a dissociative identity disorder. And a man who’s drawn into a deadly war of gods with his multiple identities. After he becomes the conduit for the Egyptian moon god Khonshu that is. May Calamawy and Ethan Hawke have been cast in undisclosed roles and yes. We can’t wait for this mini-series as well. Not to mention, the show will be directed by Egyptian Director Mohamed Diab. And the series also stars the Egyptian actress May Calamawy. Cool right?

Fun fact: This is the Third time for Oscar Isaac to be in a show or film related to Ancient Egypt. In 2016, he played the role of the Egyptian Mutant En Sabah Nur in X-Men: Apocalypse (2016). And in 2009 he played the role of Orestes in the biographical film Agora (2009). A movie about the Greeco-Egyptian Philosopher Hypatia set in Alexandria, Roman Egypt.
