Listen up Resident Evil fans! Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is about to premiere on Netflix this week. Indeed. The fans are excited about it (myself included) and I can’t wait to tell you more about the anime series.
Look. There’s no shortage of RE topics for me here at IndieGala. I’ve explored the lore (Lady Dimitrescu qualifies here don’t you think?), the film franchise (AKA the half-baked Paul. W.S. Anderson movies qualify too ). And the new upcoming projects as well. Like the new Resident Evil movie which as we know it’s inspired by John Carpenter and his movies (check it out here).
But I’m here about Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness (for the most part) and along the way, I’ll discuss some of the other animated projects that are in RE’s vault.
Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness And Resident Evil Video Game Series
As you can probably tell, IndieGala proudly can offer some of the finest games from the Resident Evil video game series. From Resident Evil 2 (available here) all the way up to Resident Evil 7 (available here). Not to mention, the one and only Resident Village which is one of our best-sellers right now. It’s available here. But you know what? Feel free to snoop around and pick the best one for you. You can do that just by one simple click here. Enjoy and game on!
What Came Before Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness And What Will Come After?
All right now. I know Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is the main topic of discussion here. And I’m gonna get to it. However, while I’m on the subject of RE projects… I believe that there are plenty of other great projects that are worth mentioning.
While I’m at the anime series similar to Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, let me just mention that there’s another one coming up soon. Although there’s no set release date, the Resident Evil TV series is currently in production.
There are 8 episodes total in the Resident Evil Series and a stellar cast and crew. Lance Reddick is Albert Wesker while the rest of the cast packs a punch with relative newcomers. Such as Siena Agudong, Ela Balinska, Paola Nunez, and Tamara Smart. And also, The story takes place over two timelines. The first of which involves 14-year-old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker moving to New Raccoon City. However, the second timeline takes place over a decade in the future. Where only 15 million humans remain, with over 6 billion animals and human infections with the T-virus. It follows Jade, now thirty, in her efforts to survive in this world. This is a spin-off from the 1996 video game and I can’t wait to watch it.
Cool Anime Movies Too!
Indeed. The past two decades brought us a bunch of great Resident Evil anime movies. And I’m going to name a few here. First and foremost there’s the 2000’s Biohazard 4D-Executer. A 3D animated biopunk horror film based on the Resident Evil video game series. Furthermore, the story centers on the mission of a military squad sent to the zombie-infested Raccoon City. Why? In order to locate the whereabouts of Dr. Cameron. A female scientist researching a new type of virus. It’s a 20-minute long project, and it’s worth checking out.
However, a bit longer project is Resident Evil: Degeneration. And it’s with a non-Japanese cast too. Unlike the Resident Evil live-action film series, Degeneration takes place within the same universe as the original video game series. And The main characters are Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield. They do appear together for the first time since the 1998 game Resident Evil 2.
There’s no way I can forget 2012’s Resident Evil: Damnation. An anime movie that revolves around biological weapons used in a European war zone. And sees the return of Leon S. Kennedy as the protagonist as well. And last but not least, there’s the 2017’s Resident Evil: Vendetta. An adult animated biopunk action horror film. And a movie with a story that’s set in between the events of Resident Evil 6 and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Not to mention it’s also the third film with Leon Kennedy as the main character. It’s also worth checking out.
But What’s So Special About Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness?
Well, as I mentioned earlier in this article, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness will premiere on Netflix this week. July 8th to be precise, and the fans are excited. I know I am. For starters let me explain what’s the TV series will be all about. First of all, it’s set between the events of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5. And secondly, that time line is in 2006. After a hacking incident is uncovered at the White House. Leon S. Kennedy needs to investigate the incident, but he encounters zombies and becomes a target himself. He later meets Claire Redfield. And she’s been checking a strange drawing made by a child refugee while working on a TerraSave-led mission. So, they’ll have to work together, and their mission will bring out some new challenges along the way.
Stephanie Panisello is the voice of Claire (in the English dub of the series) while Nick Apostolides is the voice of Leon S. Kennedy. In the English dub too. However, Toshiyuki Morikawa and YÅ«ko Kaida will be voicing Leon and Clair in the original Japanese version. Hiroyuki Kobayashi is the creator of the series. And you can expect a “manga-style” graphic novel based on the series and that it will be released alongside the anime series. Oh, and you know what? There’s another familiar face in the voice cast as well.
Doug Stone is behind the role of Ryan in Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness. The fans of Metal Gear Solid may remember him as the voice Psycho Mantis and yeah. It’s good to see him again. This time in an anime series from Netflix, which is always cool. Doug is awesome, and he’s voiced everything from Akira to Lilo&Stich. Not to mention Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers and Star Trek: Judgment Rites. And I can’t wait for Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness to tell you the truth.
And What Are The First Impressions?
Well, the early reviews are positive. The anime series has 100% approval on Rotten Tomatoes (based on 5 reviews at the time of writing this article). And even IGN was generous with the praise for Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness. But what are your hopes for this? Let us know in the comment section. We’d love to know all about it.
