Predator

Hi there. Predator is next and I’m giddy with excitement about that. Look. I’ve got to rank some of the best projects out there. Right here at IndieGala no less. From the Tales series (check it out here) to the best Dracula movies (here). However, those rankings weren’t based on my personal opinion. Or personal taste for that matter. But this particular article will be a bit different. This ranking is solely based on my taste and opinions, so I’m looking forward to it.

Yup. As I mentioned earlier, both of my previous rankings were based on someone else’s opinions. For instance, the Tales Series article was based on the Metacritic’s score. While the Best Dracula movies was a ranking based on the movie’s IMDB score. Well, that’s all about to change. Now I’m in charge and I love it.

The Predator Franchise Is My Jam

Do you wanna know why I’m in charge of the Predator’s rankings? Because I love LOVE this franchise. I’ve been a fan of the franchise for decades now, and I think I’m (almost) qualified to do this ranking. You be the judge on that. However, I must clarify something upfront. This particular ranking is for the regular film franchise. I won’t include cross-over movies like Alien VS Predator. Nor some of the books, comic books, or board games. However, I will include the video game that started this article.

Predator Is Available At IndieGala!

Yup. You’ve guessed it. Predator: Hunting Grounds is available for purchase here at Indiegala, and it’s currently on sale. Just click here to purchase the game. Predator: Hunting Grounds – Predator Bundle Edition is also available here at IndieGala (check it out here). And so is Predator: Hunting Grounds – City Hunter Predator DLC Pack. Just click here for that one. But you know what? It’s best to take your pick here and enjoy.

But let’s take a look at OG Predator: Hunting Grounds for now. And it’s up to you if you want to hunt or be hunted in this asymmetrical multiplayer* shooter that pits man against Predator.

As part of a Fireteam, complete missions before the Predator finds you. Or be the Predator and hunt your prey. Hunt down the opposing Fireteam, using deadly alien weaponry to stalk your prey.

Developed by IllFonic and published by PlayStation Mobile, Predator: Hunting Grounds is a first/third-person hunter-shooter where players take the role of a human mercenary or the Predator.

But what are some of the Steam user comments saying about it?

* Feels like the movies. Great job! Says Kevinadamson77.

*While Michelle Krout adds: More fun than I expected it to be.

So, with that in mind. Let go ahead and try to rank these 4 Predator movies. The new, 5th movie in the franchise (called Sculls) is on the way, but for now, let’s focus on these four. And last but certainly not least, I’d love to know your rankings as well. Which movie should be in the number 1 spot? Let us know in the comment section. OK. Here I gooooo.

4. The Predator (2018)

I don’t really know what went wrong with this movie. I had high hopes for the fourth installment. Especially because Shane Black was the writer/director of the last movie. The film had a great cast too, but something went horribly wrong along the way. My biggest pet peeve is the script, which is highly surprising. Especially when you know that Shane Black is the screenwriter, but I digress.

The direction is not that great either, and don’t even get me started on the CGI. But I have to admit, some of the performances are really good, and I have the biggest praises for a couple of the actors. Most notably Jacob Tremblay, Boyd Holbrook and Thomas Jane. My boy Keegan-Michael Key was trying with his recognizable comedic talent, but he didn’t have too much to work with. This one is even a bigger disappointment than Predator 2. Which brings me to…

Fun fact: Adrien Brody expressed interest in reprising his role from Predators (2010).

3. Predator 2 (1990)

Los Angeles is really hell in the late ’90s. At least that’s how the sequel depicts it. Set in 1997, with raging gang wars and unbearable heath-wave… There’s a different tone to this Predator movie. Which I would normally praise. But over here things don’t look so good either. Don’t get me wrong, the sequel is not as bad as the 2018 movie… But yeah. It’s pretty bad, although the opening scene is still freaking awesome.

However, the second act of the movie is really messy and drags on and on with unnecessary scenes. Oh, I also have issues with the presence of Gary Bussey, but the comedic timing of Bill Paxton is always welcomed. You can never go wrong with Bill Paxton (my he rest in peace). And truth be told, you’re really getting bang for your buck with the epic Danny Glover VS Predator fight. I can’t really find faults with that one really, although the movie as a whole is a mess. A watchable mess, but still a mess.

Fun fact: Arnold Schwarzenegger said no to the 1990 sequel because of a dispute over money.

2. Predators (2010)

I love this movie. I love the jungle throwback to the original Predator movie (only on a different planet). And I love the cast as well. There’s a really decent list of people here. Lawrence Fishburne, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Walton Gogins, Danny Trejo… And of course the Oscar winners Adrien Brody and Mahershala Ali. But aside from the stellar cast, this is one fairly decent movie altogether. It has plenty of subtle nods to the original movie, but dares to be different in other areas.

Not to mention, Adrien Brody’s being moody most of the time. But I love that. Also, it’s not that predictable as I thought it would be, but I appreciate that, to be honest. I also loved the cliché, but flawed (to say the least) characters as well. And all in all, it’s a nice movie to put on the number 2 spot. Don’t you think?

Fun fact: Laurence Fishburne accepted the role after enjoying Nimród Antal’s directing on the set of Armored.

1. Predator (1987)

The one and only. The OG movie, and the movie that started this franchise. And let’s face it… The movie that every other movie wants it to be, but quite frankly fails miserably. Oh, how cool this movie is? Filled with muscled, testosterone-filled legends and fantastic, iconic one-liners. Arnold Schwarzenegger has the honor of being bad-ass, and yes. Shane Black is in it too. Remember him, from point number 4? I know I do. But over here, Arnold’s Dutch and his teammates are sent on a rescue mission in Central America. What will start of as a rescue mission, will soon become a game of cat and mouse with a deadly Predator in the center. But if we leave all the cheesy lines (You’re one… *ugly* motherfucker!) and horrible special effects… The rest is really a true action-packed classic. A must-watch and perfect for the number one spot.

Fun fact: Dutch’s line “Get to the chopper!” is Arnold Schwarzenegger’s personal favorite catchphrase of all of his films that he appears in.
