Master Of Magic is a novelty for us here at IndieGala. A game that we’ve never written about on IndieGala’s blog. However, we’ve encountered plenty of RPGs before. And plenty of strategy games. Skyrim first comes to mind from the former group. While the Europa Universalis series is always a great pick from the latter. You can check out our latest post about it. We did a fine selection of the best 5 modes and we loved it.

But yeah. As we mentioned Master Of Magic is a bit of both. Strategy and an RPG. Oh, and a remake of a classic from the 90s.

What’s Master Of Magic All About You Might Ask?

Developed by MuHa Games and published by Slitherine Ltd, Master Of Magic is a combination of an RPG and a strategy game. In Master of Magic, you take up the role of one of 14 unique and diverse great wizards who compete with each other to dominate the worlds of Arcanus and Myrror.

So, choose from different schools of magic and fantasy races to command. And then lead your minions and expand your influence and power across the land.

Don’t forget to recruit and command mighty armies of elves, dragons, dwarves, orcs and many more. And finally, support them with powerful spells. Fight tactical turn-based battles and affect the outcome with your magic. But in the end, remember: there can be only one Master of Magic.

Well, we have in mind plenty of fun movies. Look. Elves, dragons, dwarves, and orcs are part of this game, so we figured why not honor every single one of them? With a single movie that they’re well known for. Every single one of them has a movie in which they’re either dominant characters. Or at the very least supporting ones. Elves: LOTR: The Return Of The King

Picking any LORT movie for this purpose alone is very hard. Why? Well, for one because you can find elves in any LORT movie. Heck, you can find it in any Tolkien adaptation. The Hobbit trilogy counts too. And secondly, even if you single out one LOTR movie, which one should you choose? They’re all amazing. Well, I kinda have to know, and if my choice would land on…. The Return Of The King.

The strongest of all the three entries in the trilogy (in my humble opinion). I mean, there’s not one thing in that movie that’s bad. The direction is flawless, the acting is impeccable. It has everything to the nth degree. Excellent sequences, direction, screenplay, musical score, costume design and emotional depth. It’s a bridge in the continuation of the epic story and it’s a masterpiece as a stand-alone movie as well. It’s glorious. Oh yeah. And it has elves too.

Dragons: Never Ending Story

Surprisingly Never Ending Story is not the oldest movie on this list. But when I had this movie in mind, to represent the aforementioned dragons… I also had plenty of other qualifications in mind. Not just dragons. It’s an adaptation of one of my favorite books ever, and it’s one of my favorite childhood movies… EVER. Yes, there’s a hint of nostalgia running through my brain even as I write this, and I’m not alone.

The Duffer brothers felt that nostalgia and channeled it into one of the iconic scenes from Stranger Things. But yeah. This is a must-watch movie from the 80s, that just happens to have a dragon in it. You’re gonna love it. Oh, and it turns out that we might be getting a remake of the movie too. There was a bidding war for the rights to the book between the major TV and movie studios in Hollywood.

Dwarfs: Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs

Who doesn’t love this Disney classic? I dare you to raise your hands. And not only do we have dwarfs in this 1930’s animated classic, but we have seven of them. Look, the plot of the movie is pretty familiar I presume. Good, so I’ll focus on the legacy this movie has.

Or rather that’s been having for almost 90 years. It’s a perfect Disney movie. A movie like Disney won’t likely make anymore, for sure. Shirley Temple presented Walt Disney with a special Oscar the very next year. It has one large statue and seven miniature ones, and it’s one of a kind. Like the movie itself. Hey, filmmakers such as Sergei Eisenstein and Charlie Chaplin praised Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs as a notable achievement in cinema. And In 1987, Snow White was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Quite an honor, don’t you think?

Orcs: Warcraft

Picking Warcraft for this was a no-brainer. Albeit a bit tricky. While I don’t love the movie (it was a bit of a let-down IMHO), I find that it best represents the Orcs. And it’s a film adaptation of a video game. And since this is a blog dedicated to both movies and video games… I figured, why not? Besides, Duncan Jones is the director of the movie (David Bowie’s son). And it has some of my favorite actors in it (Toby Kebbell and Ben Foster are my baes).
