Europa Universalis IV

Europa Universalis IV is not a game that’s been featured a lot here at IndieGala. The only article about it is a mini-review from my colleague, The Italian Guy. You can read it here of course. But in this particular article, I’m going to focus not just on the game itself. On the expansion Lions of the North, and on the many mods that are made for it.

But, first things first.

Europa Universalis IV

What’s Europa Universalis IV: Lions of the North All About?

Developed by Paradox Development Studio and published by Paradox Interactive was released in September 2022. Europa Universalis IV: Lions of the North adds new mission trees and historical options for a number of Baltic Sea nations. Many of these options include new “branching missions” which allow greater variety and replayability. As you explore different alternate histories through the decisions you make. This is the 5th immersion pack for Europa Universalis IV.

In Lions of the North, you will find a host of new National Missions and unique content tailored for the great and middle powers of the Baltic and Scandinavian regions. Preserve or undermine the Kalmar Union between Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Revive the Teutonic Order as a Crusader state. Build an island pirate kingdom to threaten thriving commercial centers. Dozens of new alternate historical paths are open to you.

So go ahead. Jump on it now and get it while it’s still hot. The offer ends in less than a month so hurry up. Get it here. And if you’re not interested in Lions of the North, we have plenty of other Europa Universalis games and expansions to choose from. Check them out here.

And What Are Some Of The Steam User Comments Saying About It?

  • Arguably the best DLC in recent years. New mission trees of unparalleled quality (well, at least in the base game), much needed to rebalance, and a lot of cool new modding tools. Says Padmelion.
  • While g 3l3ntix adds: Actually good!

Europa Universalis IV And 5 of The Cool Mods

EU IV has plenty of content to satisfy players for sure. But these mods help keep gameplay fresh and exciting. Which ones are the top 5 for us? Scroll down to find out. Note. We’re gonna focus on the entire EU IV game here. Not just on the Lions of the North expansion. We figured it would give us more room to work with. So here are our 5 favorite picks. Enjoy.

5. Missions Expanded

Missions in EU 4 provide players with a roadmap for how their countries should progress. Some Missions are generic. While others are unique to a particular country, or culture. Furthermore, they provide a lot of flavor to the game, so adding more is always great. So in the end… Missions Expanded is a fairly self-explanatory mod. But if you want more details, The mod has over 300 mission trees you can explore on your own. That should keep you occupied for sure.

4. Governments Expanded

Governments Expanded elaborates on the Government mechanic introduced in the Dharma Update 1.26. Offering more than 275 New Historically Accurate Government Reforms as well as over 100 original events, the mod aims at living up to and surpassing Paradox Standards. And don’t forget! Where depending on which reforms you picked, certain powerful and “hidden” reforms unlock to further support your push in your chosen direction!

3. Shattered Europa

If you are looking for a new way to play the game but don’t like the mods that will change the entire experience… Then Shattered Europa might be the mod for you. This mod breaks down most of the larger nations in the game down into some constituent nations. Thus, making for a far more chaotic world at the game’s start. In Shattered Europa, almost every country that has cores in eu4 is free and playable ensuring that every game will have different Major powers! Not bad right?

2. Historical Events Expanded

Historical Events Extended is for the history nerd in you. This mode adds more than 300 additional historical flavor events and generic events to the game. These are spread out across a large number of countries, many of which had none or few historical events previously. Yeah. The chances are that if you’re into Europa Universalis you might very well also be into history. If you are then this is the perfect mode for you.

1. Elder Scrolls Universalis

An overhaul mod that will take you to the expanses of the fantasy world of Elder Scrolls Universalis. But at the same time. This mod’s version of Tamriel has a staggering number of provinces programmed into it. And is available to play for 2500 years too. It also has start dates and events populated with characters from the source material for the Elder Scrolls lore nerds out there. Not to mention, everything in the base game is overhauled to fit the new setting. Including religions, cultures, events, and much more.
