Happy Father’s Day 2022 everyone! We hope you’ll celebrate this day with much love, and laughter and surrounded by your loved ones. Indeed. June 19th is Father’s Day and much like with any other special day celebrations, we intend to honor the fathers in our lives. We did it for the mothers as well, and for the women in general. But right now, in this particular article (just like in our last one), we’re all about the dads. What’s the history behind it? And what’s so special about this day?
Father’s Day 2022 VS The Origin
First and foremost, Father’s Day is a holiday honoring fatherhood and paternal bonds. As well as the influence of fathers in society. And In Catholic countries of Europe, it has been celebrated on March 19 as Saint Joseph’s Day since the Middle Ages. However, In the United States, Father’s Day was founded by Sonora Smart Dodd. And it was celebrated on the third Sunday of June for the first time in 1910. So, yeah. Our dear readers from the US, have a great Father’s Day weekend.

Oh, but not just fathers. Father figures as well. Yes. We’ve compiled 5 extraordinary, protective and devoted fathers from 5 of the most iconic video games. Some of them are hard on their kids, while others will do anything to keep them safe. Much like any good father would do. So, which ones made the cut in this list? Scroll down to find out.
Joel Miller From The Last of Us
We’ll have to wait a while to see Pedro Pascal’s take on Joel in the upcoming TV series adaptation of the iconic game. But Joel Miller is way too special not to put on this list. Joel is a survivor who is tormented by the trauma of his past. Yes. He’s a complex character, but there’s no denying that he’s a very special surrogate father figure to Ellie. He’s been often described as an antihero, but we would argue that he’s the opposite. Besides, his chemistry with Ellie is one of the finest points of the game. And yes. Their bond gets bigger and bigger as the game progresses. So, because of that, we feel that Joel deserves to be on this list.
Kratos From God Of War
Here’s another great father. Not just a father figure, but a real father to Atreus. He cares about his son and his actions speak louder than any of his words. Cared for his son through his mother’s death. He also helped his son through Alfheim. Not to mention going to the top of the mountain. Multiple times in fact. But at the same time, he’s an honest and fair disciplinarian. When Atreus does something dumb, Kratos doesn’t sugarcoat it, he’ll straight up tell his son what he did is stupid. He’s not heartless, either when he scolds Atreus. And yes. He will do anything as a father. Hence his place on this list.

Ethan Mars From Heavy Rain
The story of Ethan Mars is a tragic one. However, there’s no denying that he’s not a good father. And in Heavy Rain players can witness the struggle Ethan Mars has to undergo in the pursuit of his child. Yes. When Ethan’s younger son Shaun, is abducted by the mysterious Origami Killer, he will go through whatever brutal trials are necessary to bring him back. Shaun is the only thing he has left to live for. So, despite the burden of his failures, he still goes above and beyond to save his remaining son. Yes. Ethan is one hell of a father and you can witness his determination and devotion throughout the entire game. As he says in the game… “Everything I did, I did for love.”

Big Boss From Metal Gear Solid
Big Boss is the greatest soldier to ever live. He is the man who trained Solid Snake. His Genes gave birth to Solid, Liquid and Solidus Snake. But unlike Solid Snake, who is more of a stern and cold soldier that you see in a variety of movies… Big Boss was kind of lovable, believe it or not. And as impressive as Solid Snake is, he would’ve only gotten so far if it wasn’t for Big Boss personally instructing him. Although Solid Snake had many mentor figures such as Master Miller, he learned what it meant to be a soldier and CQC from Big Boss. And in the end… Solid Snake may have been a clone of his legendary father, but his legacy far outstrips his genes.

Harry Mason From Silent Hill
Harry is a loving, competent, responsible and devoted father to his adopted daughter Cheryl. So he sets out into the empty town of Silent Hill to retrieve his precious daughter. The only thing he has left in the world. As he says, “Cheryl is somewhere and she needs my help.”. But one simple thing makes him a great father. And one that deserves to be on this list. He just wants to protect what he loves and not lose it.
