Days Gone is next on my agenda and frankly I couldn’t be happier. It’s one of those games that I’ve been eyeing for so long, and the time has come. I get to write about it. But not only that. I also get to write about bikers, motorbikes and outlaws and I’m all about that as well.
But when I look back at my previous writings, I did write a lot about motorbikes. The Motocross article was a fun article to write (check it out here) and so was the MotoGP article (here). However, I haven’t written about bikers before. Well, if you don’t count the stunt performers in my Joe Dirt article (available for a throwback here). Days Gone is a different game, and with that, it carries a very different story, themes and characters. So, let’s start there.
What’s Days Gone All About?
Developed by Bend Studio and published by PlayStation Mobile, Days Gone is an action-adventure survival horror video game. But at the same time, Days Gone is an open-world action-adventure game set in a harsh wilderness. Two years after a devastating global pandemic. And you get to step into the dirt flecked shoes of former outlaw biker Deacon St. John. A bounty hunter trying to find a reason to live in a land surrounded by death. So, also get to scavenge through abandoned settlements for equipment. And to craft valuable items and weapons. Or maybe you can take your chances with other survivors trying to eke out a living through fair trade… It’s up to you. The open-world in Days Gone awaits you.

Days Gone And 5 Cool Biker Movies
Yup. There’s a pandemic (or rather post-pandemic) theme in the game as well, but we figured it’s way too close to home. Besides, we already have so many articles about the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. So, why not go through another route? Why not write about bikers? More specifically biker movies? I liked the idea, so here it is. You’re going to find some old and some new movies on this list, but all of them have bikers in them. Oh and all of them are fantastic to binge on if you already fell in love with the game. Beyond the Law
I’m starting this list with a TV movie, and a movie that’s one of my 90’s guilty pleasures. The 1993 movie Beyond the Law has Charlie Sheen in the lead role. And I think it’s a decent movie to this day. Not to mention Linda Fiorentino, Rip Torn and Michael Madsen are in the cast as well and stellar in their own right. But Charlie is agent Dan Saxon. An undercover cop that infiltrates a group of criminal outlaw bikers. His undercover mission involves drug smuggling and arms-dealing, and yes. It’s quite dangerous. The movie was inspired by true events, and it’s one of Charlie’s attempts at more drama-oriented movies. Away from his usual genre. Comedy. But the movie is good, and it deserves your attention.
Fun fact: The real Dan Saxon was an extra in the movie.
Wild Hogs
A road movie that’s also a biker movie? Not to mention a great comedy movie with an excellent cast? Well, that’s Wild Hogs all right. Oh, how I love it. Which is why I figured it must be on this list. Wild Hogs is about a group of middle-aged men who go into an existentialist crisis. So, after a long period of mundane existence and boredom, they’ll embark on an adventure. A road trip with their bikes will turn out to be quite the adventure they were looking for.
Tim Allen, John Travolta, Martin Lawrence and William H. Macy are in the main cast, while Ray Liotta, Marissa Tomei and Peter Fonda are on supporting role duty. This is a fun movie and I highly recommend it.
Fun fact: Peter Fonda’s appearance pays homage to the classic biker film Easy Rider (1969), in which he co-starred with Dennis Hopper.
The Wild Angels
Talk about a movie with a great cast. As promised, we do love oldies here at IndieGala and we make sure to include them. So, The Wild Angels seem like a good fit of course. The 60’s Roger Corman movie is the first movie to associate Peter Fonda with Harley-Davidson motorcycles. And the 1960s counterculture too. And yes, Fonda Fonda as the fictitious Hells Angels San Pedro, California chapter president “Heavenly Blues”. Nancy Sinatra is his girlfriend “Mike”, while Bruce Dern is the doomed fellow outlaw “the Loser”. I know Easy Rider is Peter Fonda’s most famous movie when it comes to the themes of bikers, counterculture. But The Wild Angels is also a fantastic movie. It’s a bit weird and a bit obscure too, but hey. It was the 60’s.
Fun fact: Roger Corman paid the Hell’s Angels $35 per day for their cooperation and $20 per day for use of their motorcycles.
Every Which Way but Loose
Speaking of guilty pleasures. Every Which Way but Loose is another one for me. I love it because much like with Charlie Sheen’s efforts to avoid typecasting… Clint Eastwood is doing the same here. And he’s Philo Beddoe in the movie. A trucker and brawler roaming the American West in search of a lost love along with his brother/manager, Orville. And his pet orangutan, Clyde too. While on his search, he’ll do some come across plenty of people, but he’ll annoy the living hell of a motorcycle gang. Let’s just say that the gang members won’t be too kind to him as well. It’s a fun movie from the past, and Clint has a monkey for a co-star. It’s a must-watch.
Fun fact: Adjusted for inflation, this is the biggest hit of Clint Eastwood’s career.
Ghost Rider
An unusual choice, I know… But I figured… Why not spice things up with a not-so-good comic book adaptation? And yes, Ghost Rider is not a good movie per se, but it has a motorcycle stunt rider, bikers and cool motorcycles in the middle of the story. Not to mention, Peter Fonda is also in the movie And in the role of Mephisto, which is an awesome casting decision I must say. And yes. Nicholas Cage is Johnny Blaze (or the Ghost Rider). The aforementioned stunt rider, who is tricked into making a deal with the Devil thinking that it will save his father from dying. It’s a mess of a movie, but I think it deserves to be on this list.
Fun fact: Nicolas Cage’s hairpiece required three hours to apply every day.
