In Fallout, October 23 marks the day the bombs fell. Or Bombs Drop Day. The event that started it all, and Bethesda is honoring it with a cool event.
Hey, it’s not like we haven’t honored cool moments before. The International video game day was a cool memorable day to celebrate. At least for us. And even Star Wars day, back in May. Yeah, that was fun too. But 23 of October is even more special. Why? Let us elaborate in full detail.
Hear he hear he! Fans of Fallout! 23rd of October is upon us. It’s a special day that really needs no introduction for the fans of the Fallout series. For everyone else, it kinda does. Well, it’s a somber reminder of the moment in the series’ timeline where nuclear war devastated the planet. Bombs Drop Day of course. The Bombs Drop event is now live in Fallout 76 and features a sale, free play days, and Spooky Scorched. Indeed. To not only enjoy the month of monsters. But also the time that the bombs dropped and created the nuclear wasteland that is Appalachia.
Great Sales, Deals And Events For Bombs Drop Day
If you haven’t had the chance to jump into Fallout 76 yet, now is the best time! From now through October 26, you’ll be able to experience the entire game for free. This includes the base game experience, plus Wastelanders and Nuclear Winter.
As you play through Fallout 76, you’ll also be able to take advantage of all of the new features introduced in the One Wasteland Update. Including enemy level re-balancing, which will let you play with anyone, anywhere in the wasteland. There’s also a brand-new Daily Ops system. Which rewards you just for playing and completing challenges.
Now, it wouldn’t be Bombs Drop without sales. And this year is no exception, according to Bethesda. Players can pick up Fallout 76 for up to 75% off at select digital stores up to October 26. Including the Microsoft Store, PlayStation Store, Steam and Bethesda.net.
Savings will also make their way in-game from October 21 through October 25 with a Scrip Surplus and up to 50% off of Purveyor items. Bethesda will offer a discount on Atoms from October 19 through October 25. Thus giving players the chance to snag their favorite new apparel, C.A.M.P. fixtures and items for less. According to the fallout website that is.
It wouldn’t be a true celebration without in-game events. And there will be three in-game events running from October 22 – 26. Get Double S.C.O.R.E. and Double XP. Oh and get 25% off Legendary weapons and armor from Purveyor Murmrgh at the Rusty Pick. Savings will also make their way in-game from October 21 through October 25 with a Scrip Surplus and up to 50% off of Purveyor items.
GO TRICK-OR-TREATING WITH SPOOKY SCORCHED
With Halloween fast approaching, the season of the macabre makes its way to Appalachia! Some of the area’s Scorched have decked themselves out in spooky garb and have plenty goodies to hand out to any trick-or-treating adventurers.
The catch is you may have to apply a little force, but it’s all worth it for the candy and other cool finds they drop! Don’t wait too long to join in on the mischief! And what about the movies we mentioned earlier? Well, we figured that one common theme should be in all of our cinematic suggestions. Bomb Drops. Literal bomb drops that is. Some of the movies do depict the threat of bombings, while others just suggest it. Now it’s a touchy subject indeed, but the whole day is touchy as well. Dr. Strangelove
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. Yes. It’s probably the oldest movie on this list, but it’s also one of the best no doubt about it. It’s also Kubrick’s black and white masterpieces that has it all. A fantastic script, with incredible performances from Peter Sellers and George C. Scott. Oh and satire that’s thought-provoking as it’s poignant. It’s a must-watch movie as it deals with the Cold War fears of a nuclear conflict between The Soviet Union and the USA. A true classic don’t you think?
Fun fact: As research, Stanley Kubrick read nearly 50 books about nuclear war.
Miracle Mile
Why not continue the list with an apocalyptic thriller? Yes, Miracle Mile is the perfect fit here, and it’s set in… You’ve guessed it… The Miracle Mile neighborhood of Los Angeles. Also, the film takes place on a single day and night. And it’s with two central characters in it. Harry (Anthony Edwards) and Julie (Mare Winningham). The movie also deals with a nuclear war between the USA and the Soviet Union, but there’s a nice love story in the middle of it. It’s a rather forgotten movie from the ’80s but oh so good. You’re gonna fall in love with Anthony Edwards all over again.
Fun fact: The character of Harlan was named in tribute to acclaimed writer Harlan Ellison.
13 Days
13 Days is a historical/political thriller and it depicts one of the scariest 13 days not just in American history. But world history as well. Yes, the movie depicts the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. As seen from the perspective of the US political leadership. Bruce Greenwood plays the US president, John F. Kennedy, while Kevin Kostner is the Special Assistant to President Kenneth O’Donnell. And although it was heavily criticized for historical inaccuracy, this is one of the best movies on this list.
Fun fact: Robert Kennedy called for a full-scale military invasion of Cuba when the crisis began.
WarGames
When the Cold War scare meets Science Fiction and Techno-Thriller genre. That’s WarGames in the nutshell, all right. Matthew Broderick is in the lead role here of David. A young man who’ll find access to a military computer and who’ll confuse his gaming abilities with causing a real-life WW3. Don’t confuse the Sci-Fi element here. This is one hell of a suspense movie with a great script and fine performances. It’s a true 80’s classic that remains one of the best movies of the decade. It’s a must-watch as well.
Fun fact: Matthew Broderick later worked with John Wood in Ladyhawke (1985), and with Dabney Coleman in Inspector Gadget (1999).
Hiroshima: Out Of The Ashes
Sadly, Hiroshima: Out Of The Ashes depicts one real and devastating bombing event. The atomic bombings of Hiroshima, near the end of WW2. Furthermore, the story follows the bombing and aftermath of the Atomic bomb dropped on the city of Hiroshima. As told from several different perspectives. Max von Sydow and Jude Nelson are in the lead, and yes. It’s a fantastic movie despite being a made-for-TV movie as well. Don’t let the made-for-TV aspect of it, deter you from seeing it.
Fun fact: Karate Kid’s Pat Morita stars in a supporting role.
Tora! Tora! Tora!
Is a true war epic movie about one of the most devastating events of WW2. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. You know the same movie Michael Bey did in the early 2000s but soooo much better. Why? Because it has 3 credited directors, great yet extensive cast and one of the unaccredited writers is the one and only… Akira Kurosawa. Not to mention it has brilliant action scenes and incredible visual effects. It’s a must-watch movie for all the film buffs out there.
Fun fact: The Development of this production started in 1966 while the filming started in 1968.
