Assetto Corsa: What’s it all about?

First of all, Assetto Corsa means Race Setup in Italian. It makes sense since it’s developed by the Italian software development studio Kunos Simulazioni. Secondly, to describe Assetto Corsa in basic terms is to say that it’s a racing sim video game.

So, it’s a specific racing simulation that offers a realistic driving experience. How you might ask? With a variety of road and race cars as well.

The simulation is done through detailed physics and tire simulation on race tracks. Likewise, everything in the game is recreated through laser-scanning technology. You know… To give you the ultimate feel that it’s you that’s driving on a race track.

Assetto Corsa. It’s perfect for every speed nut out there. Check it out!

Assetto Corsa: And the racing movies that we all love

Assetto Corsa is great an all, but, for now, we’re going to be focusing on the movies. Moreover, movies that involve some type of racing. In addition to the famous biopics about racing legends, we’ll include some of the best racing movies of all types of genres.

Certainly, some SF movies, and rather good action movies that still hold the test of time. Which one is going to be on our list? Maybe you should scroll down and find out by yourself.

Fast and Furious

There’s a good movie to start with. Furthermore, can you believe that it’s been 19 years since the first Fast And Furious movie premiered?

The ninth installment of the cult action franchise called F9 is heading to the movie theaters next year. But before that, it’s a good idea to remind ourselves of the movie that started it all. Fast and Furious.

It was the movie that transformed Vin Diesel into the megastar that he’s today. Although it was not warmly welcomed by the critics, the movie was a massive success with the audience. 19 years later and almost a dozen movies later, Fast And Furious is a billion-dollar franchise.

Ford VS Ferrari

Certainly, a great way to follow up a fantastic movie like Logan is to do the exact opposite of Logan. Hence, James Mangold delivered Ford VS Ferrari. Indeed a fantastic tale of rivalry and strive for perfection between two very distinct powerhouses.

Ford and Ferrari. With fantastic driving scenes and brilliant performances by Matt Damon and Christian Bale, Ford VS Ferrari is the new instant classic. The movie was nominated for an Oscar in the best motion picture category. And it’s a film that you shouldn’t miss.

Rush

Assetto Corsa

Similarly a biopic, but on a different subject. Likewise, it depicts great sports rivalry, but in a different era and different racers. Rush portrayed the notorious rivalry between two of the greats in the sport of F1. James Hunt and Niki Lauda.

However, as the movie would suggest, that rivalry was not confined to the race track. Rush indeed depicted Hunt and Lauda as opposites in every way, except for their desire to win. One driver is a reckless hedonist. While the other is a calculating and somewhat cold perfectionist.

Rush in indeed a fantastic movie. Worth revisiting as well.

Driven

In addition to the 2018 biopic Driven, there’s another (much older movie) called Driven. And yes it’s a racing movie, so it counts to be on this list. While I adore the biopic about John DeLorean, for now, I’m going to focus on the 2001 race drama. Starring the one and only Sylvester Stallone.

But not just Stallone. Til Schweiger and Burt Reynolds are in it as well, and although it was a commercial and critical failure, I think that it’s worth mentioning here. Seriously. Besides, it’s even written by Stallone himself.

Although Stallone later regretted making it, it’s nice to stir things up here and mention it.

Days Of Thunder

Days Of Thunder

The movie on which Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman met. Days of Thunder was the first of three movies that this former A-list couple did, but it’s now even considered a classic. However, that wasn’t the case in the early ’90s.

Critics panned the movie and the unrealistic special effects. But in all honesty, Days Of Thunder is liked because of the more positive parts of the film. For example, the great action scenes, the chemistry between Nicole and Tom, and the fantastic score.

Hey… Even Roger Ebert liked it. It’s a true retro must watch.

Death Race 2000

Another Stallone movie, but much older and so much better. No, I’m not talking about the abomination that was the 2008, Death Race remake, but the incredible 1975 classic. Produced by the great Roger Corman, Death Race 2000 blends sports and SF perfectly.

It’s set in the dystopian year 2000, where the highly dangerous Transcontinental Road Race is a form of entertainment. David Carradine is in it as well, and although it received mixed reviews, the AFI nominated the film for in their AFI’s 100 Years…100 Thrills list.

The movie inspired video games, comic books, and so many other movies, however, Hollywood couldn’t dignify us with a decent remake.

Speed Racer

Indeed this was the Wachowski’s first directorial effort after the Matrix trilogy.

Based on the anime/manga series of the same name, Speed Racer failed to deliver the vibe or the original material. While heavy on the visual effects and short on the story development, Speed Racer is a surprisingly enjoyable movie.

Sure it has some flaws. But for the most part, it’s a perfectly decent racing flick, filled with some of the best actors in Hollywood.

Did you liked it?
