Cyberpunk 2077 First Impressions Review

Yeah, I think it’s time for the Cyberpunk 2077 First Impressions Review. I have been playing this game for a long time and I have a general idea of the game. Well, I think after about 60 hours of play I can express my opinion, can’t I? I know I might be a bit late to the party, most of my impressions in this review are from a month ago, so some changes that took place in the meantime might not have been mentioned here yet.

I’ve been sitting on this review for a while now, but now I want to answer a key question: despite everything, is it worth playing Cyberpunk 2077? Read on and you’ll find the answer!

Beyond bug and glitch

“Yes”

I want to make a premise before I express my Cyberpunk 2077 First Impressions Review. In this article, I will NOT talk about the technical flaws of the game. They are many errors and this is now obvious. Just open any social media like Facebook or Reddit and find hundreds of memes about it.

Besides, I want to focus on the work made by CD Projekt RED. And then, I want to be optimistic. Of course, sometimes the game is unplayable, especially on old-gen consoles. However, I think with the next patches things can be fixed.

So, while you’re reading, put aside all the images you’ve seen these days. It can be difficult, some glitches are funny I know, but focus on what I want to show you.

Cyberpunk 2077 First Impressions Review: a masterpiece of the genre

Cyberpunk 2077 is a masterpiece

For some people defining Cyberpunk 2077, a masterpiece can be risky. Well, I don’t think so. Beware, I do not think it is a masterpiece of the world of videogames. Undoubtedly there are much more beautiful and complete videogames. However, in my opinion, this title is the par excellence game of the Cyberpunk genre.

What do I mean? Well, take a look at a couple of pictures that were taken in the game.

Some people called this game a great photo simulator. I don’t think I can blame them because Night City is wonderful. Walking through its streets you will be fascinated by its lights, the steams of the stalls, the music that surrounds it, and the many characters.

Cyberpunk 2077 has everything a Cyberpunk game should have. This is the perfect summary that fans have imagined for years reading works such as Blade Runner, Neuromancer, and Mona Lisa Overdrive.

As an avid fan, I can confirm that this game is a love letter to Cyberpunk. If you think yourself a fan, well, you should try this title. Just walking through the streets will make you fall in love with Night City and its fantastic but perverse side.

A distorted gameplay

Cyberpunk 2077 firts impressions review gameplay

There is no better way to describe the gameplay of Cyberpunk 2077. It is misunderstood, in every sense. When this game was announced, many players expected a futuristic GTA. That’s not it at all!

Cyberpunk 2077 is an action-RPG. Period. That means you can’t go around shooting and killing or doing stunts with your car. You have to immerse yourself in the game, trying to find an alternative way to combat. Like in The Outer Worlds, sometimes talking can get you out of difficult situations.

Other times, some missions will have a secondary way that will allow you to complete your task in a simple and stealth way. That’s what I want you to understand. Combat is not the answer in Cyberpunk 2077. It should be the last resort. So don’t expect to burn the world down in this game. Don’t listen to Johnny Silverhand and his talk of samurai and destruction, it was just to cheer you up.

In some stages of gameplay though, you will be forced to shootings the enemies. In these stages, the game suffers and you see. Regardless, I advise you to see this title as an RPG once again. You have to imagine the combat system as if it were turn-based. Look for a hiding place, wait for the enemy to make his move, and then hit. You’ll see that this way you can have fun and avoid the game over.

Ultimately, the gameplay of Cyberpunk 2077 is not perfect, but now you understand that it is not a disaster as many want to believe.

Cyberpunk 2077 First Impressions Review: a bit disappointing plot

Cyberpunk 2077 Johnny Silverhand

I want to be honest. The thing that disappointed me in this game is not the technical aspect. It’s not gameplay or character customization. Well, it’s the main story.

It’s not a bad plot. It’s compelling and you’re passionate about it. But it’s way toooooooo short. Believe me, the game takes you to fabulous climaxes, but unexpectedly it takes you to a point of no return after a few major missions. This means that you will not be able to go back, final mission, and end the game.

Of course, there are interesting secondary quests, perhaps even better than the main story. Anyway, what I consider an RPG should have in the narrative of the main story its strength. The potential to create a more complex and complete story was there. I think there was a lot of cut content and that affected the game.

However, I still want to hope for the best for the future. Just wait for the next DLCs of the game, which looks like they will be free. This is a nice move CD Projekt!

What to play while waiting?

I want to end my Cyberpunk 2077 First Impressions review by giving you some advice. There are some games you can try while waiting for future updates to this game.

For example, I recommend Ghostrunner. In my review of the game, you can find all the reasons to play it without thinking twice. Another interesting game, which mixes cyberpunk and horror is Transient. I mentioned it in the article about the scariest Halloween games. It is a must if you want to try something that will shake you up.

Finally, you can try Horizon Zero Dawn. Of course, it’s not a cyberpunk title, but if you love science fiction you will love it madly!
