Homeworld 3

Homeworld 3 is next for us at IndieGala. While we’ve not written about the previous two installments of the game series, we know a thing or two about strategy games. Especially simulation games that are set in space. Elite Dangerous comes to mind here (and you can check out our article about it here). And of course, Spacebase Startopia, which we also honored with an article (you can read it here).

But we’re here about Homeworld 3. A highly anticipated game that we can also offer at IndieGala.

Homeworld 3

What’s Homeworld 3 All About You Might Ask?

Developed by Blackbird Interactive and published by Gearbox Publishing, Homeworld 3 is a real-time strategy video game just for the fans of the series. Tactical, beautiful, and wholly unique, the GOTY-winning sci-fi RTS returns with Homeworld 3. Assume control and battle through fleet combat in dazzling, fully 3D space while the award-winning story unfolds on a galactic scale.

Homeworld’s timeless art style evolves with modern technology, offering an incredible sense of scale, destruction, and wonder. Strike craft fly in formation between hulking Battlecruisers against a backdrop of stars and nebulae. Iconic ships cast silhouettes over the remains of ancient civilizations. Explosions ripple and erupt across hulls as one fleet stakes its victory over another.

Your ultimate test of tactical skill comes in a battle against human opponents. Sharpen your instincts in AI skirmish matches, before squaring off with human opponents in 1v1, free-for-all, or team battles. Oh, and the game will launch with a new co-op mode that “will fuse Homeworld’s RTS gameplay with a roguelike structure.

Yes, Homeworld 3 is available for purchase here at IndieGala.

But Which Other Games Go Well With Homeworld 3?

Well, for the purpose of this article, we focused on games that are similar to Homeworld 3 in terms of genre, gameplay, and visuals. We’d love to know your take on this as well, so feel free to share with us your favorite game that is quite similar to Homeworld 3.

Homeworld 2

Hey, why not? It’s the predecessor after all, and although it’s more than 2 decades old, Homeworld 2 is nothing short of amazing and a worthy game to be added to this list. The story concerns Hiigara’s response to a new enemy called the Vaygr, while the game’s gameplay takes a new direction with the enhancement of its graphics and audio. The story plays out like any great epic, the only big difference is that this one is told through a modern medium. However, unlike the original game, this time it was more about the strategy not tactics and micro-control.

Homeworld 2 is a story of exile and salvation. You get to fight for your and your people’s lives in an atmosphere unmatched by any other.

Stellaris

One of our best-sellers. Stellaris is a grand strategy game unlike any other. One in which you take control of an interstellar civilization on the galactic stage and are tasked with exploring, colonizing, and managing their region of the galaxy. Thus, encountering other civilizations that they can then engage in diplomacy, trade, or warfare. The game was praised for its game’s approachable interface and design, but at the same time, it’s immersive and almost RPG-like.  But in essence, Stellaris is a game you must check out. There are so many government types to pick from, so many civics to choose from, and so many challenges to overcome. Also, there are lots of little details and references too. Heck, if you colonized a moon that orbits a gas giant, you would see the gas giant in the background, which is nice.

But yeah. Stellaris is available for purchase here at IndieGala.

Age of Wonders: Planetfall

Planetfall is the fifth Age of Wonders game and a spin-off due to the sci-fi setting and it’s awesome. It’s a turn-based game with tons of attributes, tactics, strategies, and scenarios. But that’s not all. From the art, and lore through a variety of playstyles and replayability it is a well-made game. Different factions of this game have different strengths and weaknesses, so a big game keeps you awake and challenged. Some might compare it to XCom and Civilization, but hey. It’s a good company to be in, right?

Age of Wonders: Planetfall is available for purchase here at IndieGala.

Desperados III

Something from the early days of the pandemic. Desperados III came out in 2020, and it still holds its ground as one of the best real-time tactics video games out there. It is also, the newest installment in the Desperados series, but yeah. Desperados III is a real-time tactics stealth video game, where players need to clear specific objectives while navigating through the vast maps. With great gameplay and story, but also amazing graphics, Desperados III is a worthy successor to the Desperados series. A game that’s once again showing how a stealth strategy game is supposed to be done.

Desperados III is available for purchase here at IndieGala.

Planetbase

For the last offering on this list, we chose, Planetbase. A space simulation and strategy video game that fits the overall look and vibe of the Homeworld 3. A game that allows you to guide a group of space settlers trying to establish a base on a remote planet. But what’s so great about it? The game just scratches an itch for all of you who love a good sim and strategy. It’s the perfect little colony sim. The buildings are satisfying, the events are chaotic but well-paced. Is it Challenging? Check. Is it Rewarding? Check. But most importantly, Is it Fun? Check.

However, Are You Hyped About Homeworld 3?

We sure are. What’s your favorite strategy game? Let us know in the comment section.
