God Of War

Unlike previous games, which were loosely based on Greek mythology, this installment is loosely inspired by Norse mythology. With the majority of it set in ancient Scandinavia in the realm of Midgard. However, before settling on Norse mythology, Egyptian mythology was also considered. But… The 2018 God of War reboot played heavily into the original Norse myth while also making some key changes. But the main figures from the Norse mythology are here. Loki for sure, Mimir too and of course Freya.

And for the fans of the game, in March 2022, it was reported that a live-action television series was said to be in development at Amazon Prime Video

Land of the Vikings

Land of the Vikings is a survival colony sim game, and it transports you exactly there. In the land of the Vikings.  Land of the Vikings is a Viking-themed video game for sure. But not in the way some might expect it to be. Yeah, the game is much more akin to a game like Sim City. Rather than Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. However, it does draws inspiration from Norse Mythology. For instance, Land of the Vikings has a varied skill tree for different playstyles in the form of Yggdrasil. A sacred tree of life in Norse mythology. And if you fish to try it out, then just click here and get it now.

Vikings – Wolves of Midgard

Vikings: Wolves of Midgard is an action role-playing game for the Viking fan in you. And it deals with Ragnarok.  It is set in the Shores of Midgard. A world based upon the mythology and history of the Vikings with a fantasy twist. The gameplay is similar to that of Diablo in which the players create their own character. The players can choose their character appearance, gender and attributes. And as for the game itself…. There’s Ragnarok in it. Legend has it that when the coldest winter descends, the Jotan will return to take their vengeance against the Gods of Asgard. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

What’s to say about Assassin’s Creed Valhalla? It’s one of the most beloved and best-selling games in Ubisoft’s history. However, at the same time, it’s the twelfth major installment in the Assassin’s Creed series. And it tells the story of a fictional story during the Viking expansions into the British Isles from 872–878 AD. Michael Crichton’s 1976 novel Eaters of the Dead (itself a retelling of the epic poem Beowulf) played a major role in making the Valhalla’s setting. While other characters and elements of Norse mythology appear in the story too. In researching the time period, the development team found that most historical records of the Viking expansion into Britain were written decades. If not centuries, after the event, and if that doesn’t solidify the Norse influence… Then what does?

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Speaking of incredible games… The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has entered the building. An instant classic and one of the best-selling games in history. However, the game is set 200 years after the events of Oblivion and takes place in Skyrim, the northernmost province of Tamriel. And what about the similarities and influences from the Norse mythology? Here’s to name a few. Various ancient crypts throughout Skyrim with names like Ustengrav sound a lot like Scandinavia. The word ‘grav’ means tomb or grave in Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish for instance. Furthermore, A Shieldmaiden, also mentioned in Skyrim, was a warrior woman in Norse Mythology. Next, The term Jarl has an origin from Scandinavia as every state had a Jarl or Earl ruling that area. The founder of the Swedish capital Stockholm was named Jarl Birger Magnusson. Sounds cool right? We thought so too.
