My RE4 Remake Experience

It’s time. For what you might ask? Well, for my RE4 Remake Experience of course. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve had a Filmaholic Gamer Review. In fact, it’s been almost a year, since I did my Figment Filmaholic Gamer Review. You can check it out here. but I made a big pause for a reason. I’ve expanded my passions in other areas, I focused my spare time on other adventures and yes. My love for action-adventure games is still unmatched.

Granted I’ve shared my Filmaholic Gamer Review opinion for other games of the Resident Evil series. My Resident Evil Village Experience was awesome, so I figured… Why not try the RE4 Remake? Heck, there’s a huge buzz around it, so I figured… The time has come.

RE4 Remake Experience: A Backstory If You Will

The Resident Evil 4 is (as you probably know by now) a remake of the 2005 Capcom classic, Resident Evil 4. And I got to dip my toes in RE4 back at the start of the pandemic. Heck, what else was I gonna do? Everyone was stuck inside while binging TV shows, baking copious amounts of sourdough bread and playing video games. I know we did that in my household. And I’m happy to report that I liked it. A lot. I remember being terrified by the game as well… And well… The remake took that to an enth degree.

Yes, Resident Evil 4 Remake is available for purchase here at IndieGala. There’s an 18% discount on the regular price, so if you’d love to get your hands on this game… Then now is your chance. Hurry up, and get it while it’s hot. Now, let’s get back to the topic at hand.

RE4 Remake Experience: What’s It All About?

Well, if you’ve played the 2005 game, you’ll know that it takes place about 6 years after the biological disaster in Raccoon City. And one of the survivors, Leon Kennedy has been sent to a secluded European village with one mission. To rescue Ashley Graham (voiced by Genevieve Buechner), the daughter of the US President from a dangerous cult. The mysterious and terrifying Los Iluminados cult. However, he’ll soon realize that this is a much harder task than he originally anticipated.  A lot harder.

So… About That Filmaholic Gamer Experience…

Well, finally having played the two games, I can honestly say I like the remake as well. The ambiance is a lot darker and hella scarier now. The atmosphere is dark (at times too dark even) but it made perfect sense, to be honest. And the flashlight came in handy a lot more too. But let me focus on the positive changes that I noticed in the RE4 Remake. I’ll start with the obvious of course. The changes in the character’s appearance. And they’re plenty to see. I liked Ashely’s new hairdo for one. But the changes go beyond her new appearance. Ashley’s a bit more mature, capable, more helpful and assists Leon more now. You can clearly see the difference in her personality. Which I think was awesome.

But when it comes to Leon, there are a lot more changes that I noticed. For one Leon’s voice is different (because there’s a different voice actor in the remake of course). And I liked that there’s more of Louis Sera now. I loved Louis and Leon’s partnership here to be honest. For instance, while they’re teaming up in the cabin. Not to mention in the Mines chapter. But let me tell ya about that. El Gigantes were a pain in my behind for quite some time. And no shame, but I even deployed the help of Reddit, YouTube and plenty of forums to crack down on that fight. Step-by-step instructions were very helpful too, and let’s just say it was an ordeal.

Cool Changes In RE4 Remake?

Heck yeah. Loved the new Ramon Salazar look, to be honest. Sans his signature hat, and with plenty more grey hair to show for it. I don’t know why but I dig his new look now. It goes well with his camp, and flair for the dramatics. I mean, sure. He’s still a horrible little monster, but the look now blends more with his cruelty.

But I suppose the coolest changes are with Leon. His movement is a bit different and so is Leon’s ability to crouch. Loved that. Oh and don’t let me forget about slashing with Leon’s trusted knife, and of course the ability to parry incoming attacks. The Bolt Thrower became really handy when Leon needed to remain stealthy, but I have to admit, I didn’t use it as much as I wanted to. For for the most part, the other weapons were much more efficient.

But all in all, I found myself struggling through some of the chapters. Thank God for my long-suffering husband who helped me through some of Chapter 10. Oh man, those bugs still give me chills. Not to mention, I died a lot while fighting the double Garradors. It was I nightmare and I spend the most time in that chapter, let me just leave it at that. But hey, live and learn right?

RE4 Remake Experience: Was It A Good One?

I think so yeah. I had so much fun. It took me a lot more time now to finish (since we’re not in lockdown) and I’m managing more stuff on my plate. All I had in lockdown was free time at my disposal. Now… Not so much, but hey. I’m glad I had the chance to revisit it. Especially after so much time. I like the remake too, and I’m glad I got to write about it. But I can’t help but wonder…
