Horizon Zero Dawn

All right now. Horizon Zero Dawn is next. Next for what you might ask? A video game adaptation of course. Indeed. After the Monster Hunter live-action movie, the Uncharted video game adaptation and the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie… There’s a Horizon Zero Dawn movie in development. An early development, but still… A development. So, fans of Horizon Zero Dawn rejoice. Not only you’ll be getting a movie based on Horizon Zero Dawn, but an Academy Award-winning actress might star in the lead role.

What’s Horizon Zero Dawn All About You Might Ask?

Well, before I go any further with this post I feel that a word or two about the game is in order. Developed by Guerilla Games, and published by PlayStation Mobile, Inc., THQ Nordic, Horizon Zero Dawn is an action/adventure RPG game. Horizon Zero Dawn follows a young woman named Aloy who was ousted from society at birth. A hunter in a world overrun by machines, who sets out to uncover her past. She also ventures through a post-apocalyptic land ruled by robotic creatures and can kill enemies in a variety of ways. With setting traps, explosives and even with a spear. Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the most well-received games in the Guerilla’s IP vault, and it’s only natural that there’s a movie adaptation coming. Similar to the Metal Gear Solid upcoming movie in fact.

But much like with the Metal Gear Solid Games, we do have Horizon Zero Dawn on sale as well. Hurry up, that sale isn’t going to last much longer.

And How About The Horizon Zero Dawn Movie?

Well, nothing is confirmed by now, so take the following information with a grain of salt. However, back in the summer of 2020, there was a rumor circulating that a video game adaptation is in early development. And several media outlets shared the news of the potential movie, so I suppose there’s a fire with that smoke. Furthermore, the Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence is eyed for the role of Aloy but nothing is confirmed by now. Since the term early development is in use to deliver the news, the movie is probably not even green-lit. So, unless there’s an official confirmation from a producer or a studio, everything you read here is a rumor. But with that being said…

How Good Would Jennifer Be In This Movie?

To tell you the truth awesome. It’s the equivalent of the great Cate Blanchett playing Lilith in the upcoming Borderlands movie adaptation. You may want to revisit that post. Here it is. I did a great expose of Cate’s illustrious career here at IndieGala, don’t you think. And yes. Cate’s casting in Borderlands is confirmed, and the movie is already in production… Unlike Jennifer’s appointment. But I’d like to address this potential casting nonetheless. Again. Jennifer may have only ONE Oscar (compared to Cate’s 2 Oscars), but she’s an incredibly talented actress as well. And yes, I’m a fan of Jennifer. How about you? I’d love to know your opinion of her. Let me know in the comment section.

The Beginnings Of Jennifer’s Career

Before I could even begin to talk about the state of Jennifer’s acting career now, it’s always good to go back. Back to the early days of Jennifer Lawrence’s career. Before she was this award-winning, multi-faceted actress. But in fact, before she became a movie star, she was a TV actress. Indeed, her first starring role was on TV in the sitcom The Bill Engvall Show in which she played Bill Engvall’s eldest daughter, Lauren. Prior to the Bill Engwall show, she had minor cameos in Tv shows like Monk and Cold Case. However, her true breakout role was in Lori Petty’s directorial debut The Poker House. It’s a heavy movie indeed, but if you’re interested in other heavy movies from that period, then check out The Burning Plain. Jennifer stars opposite Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger and she’s awesome, albeit in a supporting role.

The Oscars Followed Soon After

2008 was a breakout year for Jennifer for sure, but the world got to know her a couple of years later. In 2010 to be exact, when she starred in Winter’s Bone. It’s also the movie that got her an Oscar nomination for Best Leading Actress, and the movie that put her on the map. The very next year she got the role of young Mystique in X-Men: First Class, and in 2012 the role she’s best known for. The role of Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games series.

But speaking of Oscars, it was a small little comedy/drama that got Jennifer her first (and so far the only Oscar). The 2012’s Silver Lining’s Playbook. At the age of 22, she became the second-youngest Oscar winner (in the leading role category). Only Marlee Matlin (with 21 years of age) is younger than her in this category. Not bad right? More nominations followed (with David O. Russel’s biopics American Hustle and Joy), but ever since 2016 she’s in a bad slump of box office bomb series. Or critical failures series.

The Box Office Bombs/Critical Failures Of Jennifer Lawrence

First, there was the 2016’s Passengers, which was not a critical success at all. Nor were X-Men: Apocalypse, Mother, or Red Sparrow. Not to mention the failure of Dark Phoenix both at the box office and with the critics. Yeah, Jennifer hasn’t had a hit in some time and a hit movie is very much in need to revive her career from a deep slumber.

What’s Next For Jennifer Lawrence?

Since her last movie, Dark Phoenix, she hasn’t had a movie in the movie theaters. But given the current Coronavirus, things are not looking so great either. However, if you take a look at her IMDB page you’ll notice some projects in several stages of development. First and foremost there’s the 2021 drama Red, White and Water. She’ll star opposite Samira Wiley in this Lila Neugebauer drama, while she’ll also star in the star-studded Adam McKay comedy Don’t Look Up. And I do mean star-studded. From Leonardo DiCaprio, Chris Evans, Cate Blanchett and Meryl Streep to Timothee Chalamet, Ron Perlman and Jonah Hill.

All of them will star in this comedy, but there’s no word on the release date so far. Possibly somewhere in 2021, but so far nothing is confirmed. Sorry. And last but certainly not least, there are the two biopics. First, there’s Mob Girl and then there’s Bad Blood. A biopic also directed by Adam McKay in which Jennifer will play Elizabeth Holmes. The disgraced CEO of Theranos. A company that gave false promises with a seemingly new and revolutionary way of curing disease.
