The thing that got me excited about the game is that there isn’t a real tutorial. Today’s games usually guide you step by step. Even when collecting a single object you have a lot of explanation.
Instead, in this game, apart from a basic tutorial, you will need to carefully evaluate your every move. Nothing will be explained to you. Your choices can be exceptional for your abilities and your race or lead to destruction.
You will find out how to survive only after a long time and many failed attempts. Don’t worry if in the first few games you will die in the stupidest ways, it happens, just like Dark Souls. In short, a real challenge for those who want to try a difficult videogame.
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey and the growth of primates
The gameplay of Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is continuously based on discoveries. In fact, the game aims to evolve the monkeys from simple animals to intelligent hominids. Logically, growth will be progressive and gradual. There will be no shortcuts.
You will have to wander around the map, looking for materials and objects that can earn you development points. I felt like playing Assassin’s Creed: Ape Edition, as you’ll have to climb trees and mountains, just like in the chapters of the saga.
This will increase your skills and unlock new abilities. For example, it will increase the intelligence that will make you understand which foods are harmful and which ones are not. Plus, you can increase mobility and explore new areas. Also, you can develop an evolved hearing to listen to incoming dangers.
Remember that the world around you wants to eliminate you, as you are not at the top of the food chain. Moreover, I appreciate that you don’t have to take care of the development of your single character but your entire “people”.
You will have to try to evolve your species, building a small village using primitive tools such as fire or rocks. Also, you’ll have to secure the right food supplies so that everyone eats without any problems.
If you want advice, even if dangerous, always remember to bring a puppy on your explorations. Of course, you’ll have to look after the little monkey, but you’ll encourage the development of new generations, the evolution of the species.
In Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey your main character will change from time to time, as you will play with the Hominids for about 1,000 years.
Survive at any cost
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey fascinated me with the presence of prehistoric creatures. They are ferocious and lethal beasts, with an accurate design.
Maybe you’ll ask yourself, “How can I face these mortal creatures in the game?” It’s simple, you CAN’T do that. For example, when you’re face-to-face with a scary Maichairodus, a ferocious tiger, all you can do is run. Remember, survival has priority and you are the prey.
Sometimes running away will prevent you from making important discoveries, but it will save your life. My motto for this game is simple: run away to live another day.
Of course, after accumulating a certain amount of intelligence points you can wield a weapon and defend yourself against some predators. However, direct clashes are not recommended. Remember, this is a Survival game, not an FPS where you have to kill everyone, so be careful.

Finally, I want to mention the graphics of the game. Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey will transport you into a wonderful wild jungle. Everything will seem real to you and you will also notice small details like insects or berries.
Some claim that the gameplay is repetitive. Personally, I can confirm that I’ve never gotten tired of playing this videogame. I’m sure that immersing yourself every time in such a well-groomed hostile environment will overshadow the flaws of the game and you will enjoy a phenomenal experience.
