Movie Trivia Quiz Event: Cinematic Universes

Hello, lovely movie trivia fans! Are ready for something quite different? Yes? Good. Then stick around. You’re in for a treat. Well, as you can probably tell, (if you’re reading the IndieGala blog), we do a nice mix of movies and games in most of our posts. And quite frankly we love it. It blends nicely the two things we care about. Video games and movies.

We Can Never Get Tired From A Good Movie Trivia

But for the first time ever, we’re taking a different route. We’re mixing our lovely quizzes and the movies that go along with them. Indeed, there will barely (if any) mention of any games in this post, and I’ll be mainly focusing on the cinematic universes. Why? Because we’ve selected 7 quite interesting cinematic universes for our movie trivia quiz event. The event will begin this Sunday (18.10.2020) and will last one week, so make sure you don’t miss it. Make sure you check for daily hints here.

And yes, you may care more about some of them than say the rest, but remain calm and rest assured. All of them are inspired not just by the quizzes that you love dearly, but from our previous writings here at IndieGala. And of course, to stay with the current times I’ll throw in some brand new (fresh) news about each and every one of them. As you can probably tell from the heading, we can never get tired of movie trivia. How about you?

Which Movie Trivia Quizzes Are In This Post?

We at IndieGala have selected 7 different and quite interesting quizzes to be our guideline in this particular post.

Which should be our first pick? OK, let’s start with the Resident Evil one.

Resident Evil

Yes, I’m starting this particular post with probably one of the best-known franchises of all time. The Capcom’s Resident Evil franchise. Although I already wrote about the original Resident Evil cinematic universe, I thought it would be a good idea to share the latest news. The news about the upcoming reboot, approved by Capcom of course. Yes, I already made the introductions with the actress who will be playing Jill Valentine, even when she was in the early negotiations of the role. Hannah John-Kamen finally won the role of Jill Valentine, but who else is going to be in the reboot beside her?

Kaya Scodelario is in the role of Claire Redfield, while Robbie Amell is in the role of Chris Redfield. Tom Hopper got the role of Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia is Leon Kennedy, while the Hollywood veteran Neal McDonough got the role of William Birkin. Staying true to the original movie, the reboot will be set in 1998 on a fateful night in Raccoon City. And as you probably know, the lead character in the previous film franchise, Alice will not be featured in the reboot. Nor the actress who played Alice. Milla Jovovich.

And while Paul. W.S. Anderson is responsible for bringing the Resident Evil franchise to the small screen (and directed 4 of the movies from the franchise), he will have nothing to do with the reboot. Yes, Anderson is currently anticipating the release of another Capcom IP. Monster Hunter is next for director and his wife and colleague, Mila Jovovich.

Oh and some additional trivia for you: Milla is not a fan of the reboot. She already expressed her feelings to some of the media outlets, but are you? Let us know what are you most excited about the Resident Evil reboot.

Star Wars

Much like with Resident Evil, Star Wars was also heavily on my agenda these past few months. I wrote about the previous movie trilogies, about the upcoming trilogies and TV projects. And I also did a throwback for the first season of The Mandalorian. Stay tuned for that post soon on IndieGala of course. But what’s new with the Star Wars cinematic universe? Well, there are currently more than 10 different projects in development, and rumors about a potential The Mandalorian solo movie.

However, according to some of the media outlets, Disney and Lucasfilm are already eyeing Robert Downey Jr for a role in one of those projects. Indeed, Tony Stark himself could potentially come to another Disney-owned franchise. And considering the talent that Robert Downey Jr. has, he could potentially join Alec Guinness in one very special group. For having Oscar nominations while starring in a Star Wars movie. Only time will tell on that.

And what about those upcoming movies movies I mentioned? Well, everyone’s favorite director Rian Johnson (he directed The Lat Jedi) will direct another trilogy. So, strap in for more Johnson directed Star Wars content in the future of this movie trivia section.

Star Trek

While there are currently 4 Star Trek TV series (on-air or waiting for TV kick-off dates), many more are already on the wish list. For instance, Kate Mulgrew, who portrayed Captain Kathryn Janeway on “Star Trek: Voyager” will reprise her character in “Star Trek: Prodigy,”. It’s a new animated series that will air on Nickelodeon, and I can’t wait for it. I loved Janeway to be honest and the entire Voyager series. But what about the cinematic universe?

Well, nothing is concrete here, and no upcoming movie has great light for now. However, Quentin Tarantino has shown interest in directing a Star Trek movie script from The Revenant co-writer about an original series episode called “The City on the Edge of Forever.” Noah Hawley of FX’s Legion and Fargo series was hired at some point to continue the Star Trek franchise as well. But that production is still on hold too. Whichever movie gets made first, it will the first since 2016. That’s when the last Star Trek movie (directed by Justin Lin) Star Trek Beyond was released. Stay tuned for a great little look back at the three most recent movies from the Star Trek franchise. Yes, it’s on the IndieGala’s agenda so make sure you don’t miss it.

But while on the subject of the Star Trek cinematic universe, it was announced back in August 2020, that Hawley’s movie had been put on hold. Why? Reportedly that was a decision by Paramount’s new president in order to get a better handle on moving the franchise forward. And there’s no word on whether Benedict Cumberbatch will return in the role of Khan (he played Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness).

Marvel Cinematic Universe

Thanks to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no Marvel movie releases this year. But I already wrote about plenty of Marvel movies and even a Marvel characters. Rhino is a particular favorite of mine and one of the most underrated baddies in MCU. But which Marvel movies can we expect next year? Well, quite a few actually. Four (yes that’s 4) movies in total are on the Marvel’s agenda for 2021, including the Black Widow solo movie that was supposed to come out this year. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals and Untitled Spider-Man: Far From Home sequel are also on the agenda. And you’ve probably heard that Doctor Strange and Electro will appear in Untitled Spider-Man: Far From Home sequel, which quite frankly, delighted the fans.

Here’s a fantastic throwback to my Marvel quiz. Black Widow will be the second solo movie with a female lead character for Marvel. Nice progression for Natasha Romanoff since her first appearance in Iron Man 2, don’t you think?

And who was the first solo movie with a female lead? Well none other than Captain Marvel with Brie Larson in the role.

DC Cinematic Universe

DC is not doing any better in terms of movie releases, to be honest. Indeed, DC is still hoping for Wonder Woman 1984 to have a theatrical release. And after many delays, the final premiere date is set for December 25th. Yes, the pandemic has hit the movie theaters and film studios hard, but time will tell if this movie gets released at all this year.

But unlike Marvel, DC has one single movie release from 2021.James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad sequel. I can’t wait for this movie to be honest. Maybe Gunn will do the movie some justice and improve the Suicide Squad with fresh new blood in the cast. And yes, my boy John Cena is in the cast, so this gives me hope even more. Add Nathan Fillion, David Dastmalchian, Taika Waititi, Peter Capaldi and Idris Elba in the mix and you’ve got yourself a potentially decent movie.

And you know what else has the potential to be a decent movie for DC? The new Batman movie. Much like with every other movie currently in development, Batman suffered delays and setbacks. Hey, even the main star Robert Pattinson tested positive for COVID-19. But the production is back on track and Pattinson is in good company. Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Barry Keoghan, Jayme Lawson, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell as in it as well. And Kravitz is in which role you might ask? Well, she’s Catwoman in the new Batman.

As you already know Harley Quinn made her first appearance in the original 2016 Suicide Squad movie.

Disney

Of course, the aforementioned Black Widow and Mandalorian (among many others) fall into the Disney bracket. But what else is on the agenda for Disney and the cinematic universe? And by Disney cinematic agenda, I’m going to mainly focus on the live-action adaptations of their famous animated movies. If you thought Mulan was a disappointment, then watch out for a lot more similar live-action movies in the next few years.

First, there’s Cruella. Set for 2021 premiere, it’s a live-action movie based on the classic Disney character Cruella de Vil. Emma Stone is in this role, but the movie will also feature Emma Thompson and Mark Strong as well. As you know Cruella de Vil is the main antagonist in the classic Disney movie One Hundred and One Dalmatians. Let’s hope that this is not another Disney disappointment. But if you’re not fans of the classic Disney tales, then The Rock’s Jungle Cruise will hopefully satisfy your needs. That’s set for 2021 release too.

Much like Glenn Close ruled this role in the 90’s let’s hope Emma won’t be another disappointment for Disney. Because in the world where Robin Williams is not a genie and Mushu doesn’t exist, is it really a good Disney world?

Mission Impossible

What pandemic? Tom Cruise defies all logic when it comes to the production of his beloved Mission Impossible franchise. And he won’t even let the global pandemic derail his MI plans. Well, one of the few movies that are currently in production is Mission Impossible 7, and the man is incredible. I’m talking about Tom of course. He’s already hanging from helicopters, running and fighting on top of speeding trains and despite delays, I’m actually looking forward to this movie.

I’m such a fan of the MI franchise, and it’s safe to say that it’s one of the few long-running franchises that are getting better. And better. With each new movie, and i’m dead serious about this. You can thank Tom for that because he’s raising the bar so high, but also director Christopher McQuarrie who’s doing his best to satisfy our blockbuster needs. The premiere date is set for November 19th, 2021, and let’s all hope that this nightmare is over by then.

Now, I left the Mission Impossible cinematic universe, for last because it’s one of the few franchises that I’ve never written about before. But this movie will be 3rd for director McQuarrie. Right after Rogue Nation and Fallout. Are you excited as well? I know I am.
