To be honest, speaking about the new Star Wars series is not my first time making a Star Wars-themed post. Far from it. I did a Star Wars post back in May, just in time for the May the 4th celebrations. However, in the previous post, I mentioned a mix of new and old Star Wars projects. I also mentioned my all-time favorite Star Wars movie – The Empire Strikes Back. Which also just recently topped the US box-office for the first time in 23 years
But for now, I’d like to do a follow-up post about the future of the Jedi order and overall Star Wars Universe. Why? Well, first and foremost because we do have plenty of Star Wars games here at IndieGala. The Star Wars Collection and the Star Wars Jedi Knight Collections are part of our summer sale. But we do have Star Wars Classic Collection as well. That’s three fantastic game collections for you to choose from.
However, before I go any further, you might be curious about what’s Star Wars Collection all about and what does it contain.
A classic Star Wars Collection For All Taste Buds
LucasArts, BioWare, Aspyr Studios, Pandemic Studios, Petroglyph, Raven Software, Obsidian Entertainment, Aspy, are some of the developers, and published by Disney Interactive. Star Wars Collection is a fantastic mix of action, strategy, RPG and simulation all in one. It’s also a fantastic mix of 14 separate games that should satisfy even the pickiest Star Wars fans. From Star Wars Battlefront II (the classic) and Stars Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast to Stars Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and Stars Wars Starfighter. All the way to Stars Wars Empire at War: Gold Pack and Stars Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II. It’s up to you to choose and enjoy.
New Beginnings with the New Star Wars Series
I’m referring to the live-action series part of the Star Wars series. I’ll keep the upcoming Star Wars movie projects for a separate post. So, make sure to stay tuned for that as well. Because there’s no way I could write about the upcoming TV projects without mentioning the upcoming movie projects. The Star Wars universe is so vast and intricate that seems like these two go hand in hand.
First of all, I can’t help but mention the live-action TV series The Mandalorian. I simply can’t. The second season of the Mandalorian is on its way, and I can hardly wait to be honest. The release date is confirmed for October of this year on Disney+ and there’s plenty to be excited about the second season. First and foremost, a bunch of new actors has already signed up to star in the new season. Certainly, the presence of Michael Biehn, Timothy Olyphant, Katee Sackhoff and Rosario Dawson will elevate the quality, and I’m all for it. Looking forward to see Giancarlo Esposito again, as well.
But I’m here for the presence of Temuera Morrison too. Guess who will he be playing in the second season? The one and only, Boba Fett indeed. That’s right, the notorious bounty hunter is back and I love it. But don’t think for a second that the stellar cast is the only good thing about the season. Hardly. The likes of Peyton Reed, Robert Rodriguez and Carl Weathers will helm some of the episodes of this season as well. And of course, provide nice support for Jon Favreau behind the camera. I don’t know about you, but I’m on board.
Untitled Star Wars/Cassian Andor Series
Similarly, the Untitled Star Wars/Cassian Andor Series is a rather interesting prequel series to Star Wars’ Rogue One. Do you remember Rogue One? Well, in addition to the return of Diego Luna in the role of Cassian Andor, there’ are plenty of new and old additions to the cast as well. Alan Tudyk is expected to return in the role of K-2SO, and so is Genevieve O’Reilly too.
Not to mention that Stellan Skarsgård, Kyle Soller, Denise Gough are already confirmed, but do you know who else is? Tony Gilroy and George Lucas. Yes, they both have writing credits in one episode each. However, the production of the Untitled Star Wars/Cassian Andor Series has been delayed due to the Corona-virus pandemic. So the exact start of the production remains a mystery for now.
Untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi series
Currently in development, and in the same delayed limbo as the Untitled Star Wars/Cassian Andor Series. However, from all the things we do know for now, Ewan McGregor is confirmed to return in the role of the master Jedi Obi-Wan. Deborah Chow will direct some of the episodes, while Joby Harold will be the main show-runner of the series. But that’s not all. Rumor has it that the notorious Jar-Jar Binks will make a return in the series as well.
And according to the latest scoop, so will Natalie Portman in the role of Padme Amidala. Well, at least in Obi-Wan‘s prequel era flashbacks. However, Hayden Christensen is also reportedly expected to star in the upcoming TV series. Whether though the good old flashbacks as Anakin, or in a Darth Vader cameo, it’s unclear, but his involvement is eminent. However, until the official confirmation from Disney, take these two additions as still pending.
Fun fact: When Disney officially announced the series, actor Ewan McGregor revealed that he had known about the upcoming project for a long time now. He even said: “It’s a massive relief because for four years I’ve been having to lie to people about it.” Hey, he even watched The Mandalorian to prepare for his return as Obi-Wan. Cool right?
However, the pre-production is currently put on hold (and the crew has been sent home for a foreseeable future). But why, you might ask? Well, not because of the global pandemic or anything similar to the dangers of Corona-virus. Oh no. Because Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy was “not happy with the scripts”. There’s no word on when this series could see the light of the day I’m sad to report.
Untitled female-centric series
This one steered the most backlash and received the worst press. The Untitled female-centric series that’s reportedly being developed by Leslye Headland. She will also serve as a writer and show-runner but she’ll direct some of the episodes too. According to Variety’, the series will “take place in a different part of the ‘Star Wars’ timeline than other projects. In addition to the female-centric premise, the show will be an “action thriller with martial arts elements and set in an alternate timeline. There’s currently no word on the actors that will occupy the roles, not there’s any info regarding the roles themselves. We will have to wait on the air date as well.
