It’s Star Wars Day folks. May the 4th is finally here and I couldn’t be happier. So, quite similar to the last year’s celebration of Star Wars Day (which you can read here), I’m going to discuss a brand new Star Wars project. It’s an upcoming project of course, and I can’t wait for it to be released. Indeed. I’m talking about Obi-Wan Kenobi Mini-Series. But over here in this particular article, I won’t focus solely on Obi-Wan Kenobi. Or the series in question. I’m also going to introduce the actor in the titular role. I’m sure for the fans of Ewan McGregor he doesn’t need a special introduction. But hey. It’s good to know about his beginnings, his career since, and his future plans. So, let’s begin shall we?

Obi-Wan Kenobi Series For Star Wars Day
Yup. As I previously mentioned, I’m going to introduce the Obi-Wan Kenobi Series in this particular article. But I must start with the obvious. Ewan McGregor will be reprising the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the 6 episodes long TV series. It’s also a mini-series set 10 years after Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. And 9 years before Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. And as you may recall he played this particular role in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Indeed, he took on the role which was occupied by the Academy Award-winning legend Alec Guinness.
But he was quite good as the young Obi-Wan, don’t you think? Well, he’s back in the Jedi robe and training hard. Not to mention, he’s showing off his hard work in the gym. Because why not? However, the actor is currently in the spotlight because of another role. The Scotsman took over the role of Halston, and the fans are not that happy about it. Of the fact that a straight actor will be playing an openly gay designer. Hey, it’s not the first gay character for Ewan. Remember I Love You, Philip Morris? But it is what it is, and I’m here about another role of Ewan’s. Obi-Wan. Halston is another subject for another article.
How About The Bad Batch And The Book Of Boba Fett?
Yes, we know, the main focus is on the 2022 series, and there are plenty of Star Wars series that are about to premiere in 2021. Well, let’s take a look at some of them shall we? Star Wars: The Bad Batch premieres today, and it’s another reason for the Star Wars fans to rejoice. Unlike the Mandalorian for instance, The Bad Batch is not a live-action series. No, it’s an animated series and there’s a lot of hope for this one. Furthermore it’s both a sequel to and spin-off from the series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Dee Bradley Baker voices the clone troopers in the series. Including the titular squad of elite clones with genetic mutations. Ming-Na Wen stars as Fennec Shand in the series. While Stephen Stanton and Andrew Kishino are in the cast as well. The first season will have 14 episodes, and yeah. There’s another reason to feel happy this May 4th.
But what about The Book Of Boba Fett? Well, it’s about to premiere in December 2021, and of course. Yet again on Disney+. Not to mention the series will follow the journey of legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett. After his reintroduction in The Mandalorian of course. Temuera Morrison will once again tackle the iconic Boba Fett character. While Ming-Na Wen will once again tackle the elite mercenary Fennec Shand character. So far only 7 episodes are confirmed from the Mandalorian’s spin off, but nothing else. No other cast and crew and no official release date December 2021 is all we know so far. Back to the topic at hand. Obi-Wan.
Ewan Is The Star And The Producer Of The Series
And since the production of the Obi-Wan Kenobi Series is already underway, I think it’s good to discuss it a bit more. Ewan is also the Executive producer of the Obi-Wan Kenobi Series, and besides him, plenty of other Star Wars actors will reprise their roles too. Hayden Christensen will return in the role of Darth Vader. While Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse will reprise their roles as Owen Lars and Beru Whitesun Lars, respectively.
But there are plenty of new additions to the cast as well. Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend are some of them. While O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, Benny Safdie, and Maya Erskine make the rest of the cast. And yes. The series begins with Obi-Wan Kenobi watching over a younger Luke Skywalker on Tatooine. So he will take the character on a “rollicking adventure” and it’s precisely what you can expect. Lots of “rollicking adventures” in the mini-series.
All six episodes will be written by Joby Harold and all six of them will be directed by Deborah Chow. As I mentioned, earlier, the production began last month in Los Angeles, under the working title Pilgrim. Not to mention, the series will use the same StageCraft video wall technology that was used in The Mandalorian. But according to some reports, McGregor even watched The Mandalorian to better prepare for this TV series. And according to the official social media of Ray Park, Darth Maul is expected to appear in the series too. Oh, and the rumor is that Jar-Jar Binks will also appear in the Obi-Wan Kenobi Series, so I don’t know how to feel about it. Let me know your thoughts on this.
Star Wars Day: Ewan’s Rise To Stardom
Much like other actors, the career of Ewan McGregor career began with TV. Back in the early ’90s, he was part of 2 mini-series. The Lipstick On Your Collar and Scarlet And Black. But it was his role in 1994’s Shallow Grave that got him noticed. Of course, the movie started a decades-long collaboration with Danny Boyle. And that continued with probably one of the best movies that are ever made. Trainspotting. The role of Renton is as iconic now as it was in 1996, but in the 90’s it took some time for Ewan to establish himself.
There was the 1996 adaptation of Emma and the 1998 glam drama Velvet Goldmine. But it was 1999 that the world saw Ewan as Obi-Wan. It was in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace but he reprised the role in the 2 subsequent sequels. I’m sure many of you will agree that Moulin Rouge! Is his finest work from the early 2000s and Black Hawk Down too. Totally different projects, but so good. But the latter part of the 2000s got him in a nice company of directors as well. Not just George Lucas, Baz Luhrmann and Tony Scott.
He did Big Fish with Tim Burton, Miss Potter with Chris Noonan, Cassandra’s Dream with Woody Allen. And The Ghost Writer with Roman Polanski as well. But if you want to witness the true chameleon-like nature of Ewan and his eclectic penchant for roles… Then you should take a look at his filmography post-2010. Beginners is probably my favorite movie from this era, and it’s a crying shame that he didn’t get more noticed because of it.
DC, Disney And Steven King
Yup. All of this is in Ewan’s career in the past 10 years or so. And then some. The Impossible was another fantastic movie in which he was overlooked, but I can say the same August: Osage County. But I’ll be the first to admit, that August: Osage County had an abundance of talent and it was hard to get noticed among the Hollywood A-listers. Back in 2016, he directed American Pastoral, and the next year he reprised the role of Renton in T2 Trainspotting. He was Lumiere in The Beauty And The Beast remake, and last year he was Roman Sionis / Black Mask in Birds Of Prey.
His most recent villainous role too. But from the recent stage of his career, I do love his work in Christopher Robin and Doctor Sleep. Especially Doctor Sleep. He was quite good as the older Danny Torrence, although the movie was not what I expected it to be. This year you can see him in Guillermo Del Toro’s version of Pinnochio (as the talking cricket), and the TV mini-series Halston. The mini-series is set to premiere on May 14th, and I’m looking forward to it. If I’m completely honest. For the Obi-Wan Kenobi series as well. However, the fans will just have to wait to 2022 for that one.
