Monster Train is a novelty game for me. Although I’ve lost count on the monster-related articles I’ve written so far, this particular game is new to me. But I don’t mind actually. I relish the fact that I’ll get to write about cool and exciting games. And even cooler topics that go along with it.
But as I said… Monsters (all forms of monsters) have been constant companions for me here at IndieGala. Regardless if I’m writing about vampires like Dracula (Dracula is always a fun topic here at IndieGala) or monsters that are out of this planet. Kinda like the ones in Monster Hunter.
But monsters come in different shapes and sizes. Which our video game of the day proudly demonstrates. And yes, before I go on any further with the article, I believe Monster Train deserves an introduction.
What’s Monster Train All About You Might Ask?
Developed by Shiny Shoe and published by Good Shepherd Entertainment it’s a cool strategy and deck-building game with roguelike elements.
And in it… Hell has frozen over. Only you can protect the final burning pyre from the forces of heaven and restore the inferno. Monster Train brings a new strategic layer to roguelike deck building, with three vertical playfields to defend. So, to take back hell, you’ll need to power up. Choose your route carefully, different locations give different benefits. Furthermore, you can upgrade your champion, recruit powerful units, upgrade cards, gain passive bonuses. Or duplicate any card in your deck.
Furthermore, with five clans to choose from, each has its own unique and surprising gameplay. So, pick your primary and supporting clan to gain access to all cards from both. During your run, you will be able to improve cards by mixing and matching upgrades to open up new roads to victory. Hey, you can even duplicate your favorite card at special map nodes before facing off against the final boss.
Monster Train is available for purchase here at IndieGala. And so are plenty of other iconic monster-filled games. Games like Doom (which is one of our best-sellers). And games like Monster Hunter. But what’s the word on the Game?
Well, Game Informer said in their review: “Monster Train is a pleasant, mind-blowingly addictive exercise that’s well worth your time, especially if you’re a fan of rogue-likes, card games, and deck-building fare”.
But the Steam community is also pleased with it. I mean just take a look at some of the comments.

Monster Train & 5 Cool Movies That Go Along With It
But we’re here also about something else. About a bunch of movies that you’ve guessed it… Have the theme of the article (and the game) down to a T.
Yes. There are 5 of those movies on this list. And while I’ll focus for the most part on actual monsters on a train, I’ll mention some of the human monsters as well. Which movies made the cut here? Scroll down to find out.
Train To Busan
I’ll start this list with a fairly beloved movie. And a movie that I mentioned in my last year’s Train Simulator article (here it is). But yeah. Train To Busan is a perfect fit here. Why? Because it contains zombie invasion and most of the action is contained on a high-speed train from Seoul to Busan. Seriously it’s one of the best monster movies. With the zombies being the true gory monsters. And it’s so good, that it even has some celebrity fans. Namely, Edgar Wright who praised it on his Twitter account. But yeah. It’s a perfect movie for this particular article.
Fun fact: Sohee, who plays the character Jin-hee, is an ex-member of the famous K-POP group Wonder Girls.
Demon Slayer: Mugen Train
It fits both of the criteria required for this article. It has demons and the entire action is on a moving train. Plus, it’s an anime movie in which, the plot is in the title. After his family was brutally murdered and his sister turned into a demon, Tanjiro Kamado’s journey as a demon slayer began. Tanjiro and his comrades will embark on a new mission aboard the Mugen Train. On track to despair. Demon Slayer: Mugen Train is the direct sequel to the first season of the anime series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. And yeah. It’s great. With great voice acting and fantastic animation, this is a movie you must watch.
Fun fact: This is the most attended Japanese film of all time.
Terror Train
Terror Train is basically a Halloween movie but on a train. And with human monsters that target a group of students. It has Jaime Lee Curtis in an early 80’s role (hence the Halloween vibe). But surprisingly the magician David Copperfield is in a weird supporting role. This is a stylish and inventive movie and really makes the most of its settings. Oh, and you’re gonna love how the killer (aka the monster) uses different costumes for each of his killings. They don’t make them like this anymore, that’s for sure.
Fun fact: Magician David Copperfield got very irritated during production because he had so much trouble saying his lines that he swore he’d never make another movie.
Howl
And we’re back to the good old monsters. Not just the ones in a human form. But yeah. Much like most of the movies on this list, Howl is awesome. And involves passengers on a moving train that are attacked by a creature. They must work together in order to survive, but that survival won’t come so easy. The night will present itself as a real challenger. Howl is probably the most recent movie on this list. But at the same time, it’s one of the few ones that are indie productions. It’s great and deserves your attention.
Fun fact: When Matthew is walking about in the woods, about three or four low spotlights or lenses are visible in the distance.
The Midnight Meat Train
And we’re back to the human-like monsters. But this time in The Midnight Meat Train it comes in the shape and form of Vinnie Jones. However, Bradley Cooper takes the lead role in this horror film. A film in which the monster (the serial killers) attacks at night, and on the midnight train. No one is safe from his lunatic, but will one photographer’s eye for detail put a stop to this monster?
This is a good albeit scary movie and deserves to be on this list. I may not have fictional monsters, but it definitely has plenty of real-life ones.
Fun fact: In Silver Linings Playbook (2012), Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper walked by a theater showing this film.
