The Devil In Me has been an unexplored game in The Dark Pictures Anthology until now. At least for us. We explored plenty of games about serial killers. Heavy Rain first comes to mind here, and yes. But The Devil In Me is something special for us. It’s the fourth and the last installment in The Dark Pictures Anthology. After Man of Medan (2019), Little Hope (2020), and House of Ashes (2021). But… What’s The Devil In Me All About?
Developed by Supermassive Games and published by Bandai Namco US, The Devil In Me is an interactive drama and survival horror game. All in one. Like earlier video games in the series, The Devil in Me features a cast of five playable protagonists and a multilinear gameplay narrative influenced by player choice. A group of documentary filmmakers receives a mysterious call inviting them to a modern-day replica of serial killer H.H. Holmes’ ‘Murder Castle’. It’s an opportunity that’s too good to pass up and could be just the thing they’re looking for to win some much-needed public interest.
The hotel is the perfect setting for their new episode, but things aren’t quite as they seem. The crew discovers they’re being watched and even manipulated, and suddenly there’s much more at stake than just their ratings!
So… The Question remains. Can you outsmart the killer and check out all your cast? All playable characters can live or die in your version of the story.

Which Serial Killer Movies Go With The Devil In Me?
Well, for Heavy Rain we focused on serial killers that like to send a message with their horrendous acts of violence. This time we’re going broader, and we’re also gonna focus on more current movies. And yea. Most of these movies are inspired by real-life serial killers. Don’t let that scare ya. Which ones made the cut? Scroll down to find out.
No Man Of God
Ted Bundy’s killing spree, apprehension and subsequent trial/execution have been the subject of plenty of movies, TV shows and whatnot. But No Man Of God is a bit different from the rest. First and foremost it’s based on real-life transcripts selected from conversations between serial killer Ted Bundy and FBI Special Agent Bill Hagmaier. They happened between 1984 and 1989 and showed the complicated relationship that formed between them. You know… During Bundy’s final years on death row. Luke Kirby portrays Bundy while Elijah Wood is the FBI agent Hagmaier. This is a very good movie. And if you’re a fan of Kirby and Wood, then that’s just an unexpected bonus.
Fun fact: Bill mentions Henry Lee Lucas. A murderer who made up stories about people he had killed, meaning he wanted Bundy to tell the truth.
X
Let’s throw in a slasher movie in the mix, shall we? X was the unlikely hit of 2022 and it solidified the collaboration of Mia Goth with the director Ti West. But X follows a cast and crew who gather to make a pornographic film on an elderly couple’s rural Texas property, However, they’ll soon find themselves threatened by an unlikely killer. According to Fangoria, X exemplifies a modern take on the psycho-biddy horror subgenre. One in which aging or elderly women portray grotesque, violent characters. And with the terrific performance from Mia Goth, we couldn’t agree more.
Fun fact: Horror film debut of Kid Cudi.
The Clovehitch Killer
This is yet another movie that has true story written all over it. And don’t worry. There’s plenty of that in this article. But Unlike No Man Of God, The Clovehitch Killer was mostly inspired by the story of real-life serial killer Dennis Rader. Also known as the BTK Killer. Dylan McDermott, Charlie Plummer, Samantha Mathis, and Madisen Beaty are in the cast of the movie. However, this is more of a coming-of-age drama, than a serial killer thriller. Nonetheless, it’s good and it deserves your attention. Check it out.
Fun fact: While the film’s antagonist is not specifically based on any real-life serial killer or cases, the main inspiration for it is BTK.
The Good Nurse
Told ya there are more serial killer-inspired movies on this list. This one is from 2022 as well, and it’s about a different type of serial killer. It’s about Charles Culler, the nurse that’s responsible for the deaths of around 40 of his patients (according to his own admission). Jessica Chastain portrays Amy Loughren a fellow nurse in the hospital that suspects that Cullen is a serial killer, and it’s good. Really good. Especially the performances from Eddie and Jessica but this is a movie that you will love because it’s awesome.
Fun fact: Eddie Redmayne and Jessica Chastain are both Academy Award winners: The Theory of Everything (2014) & The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021).
Frailty
Probably the oldest movie on this list. But at the same time, one of the most underrated. Frailty is the late Bill Paxton’s directorial debut and a movie that he also stars in. The plot focuses on the strange relationship between two young brothers and their father (Paxton). The mentally disturbed father believes that he has been commanded by God to kill demons disguised as people. And he will stop at nothing. This is a well-crafted, low-key horror movie that’s strengthened by the terrific performances from Paxton Matthew McConaughey and the late Powers Boothe. I highly recommend it.
Fun fact: The film is set in Texas and has three Texas-born actors as top-billed stars. Bill Paxton, Matthew McConaughey, and Powers Boothe.
