A simple story in a fairytale world
The plot of Shadowrun Returns is interesting, although very simple. Well, if I have to tell you the truth it is not the most original. Regardless, it’s exciting, you’ll be passionate about it, I assure you.
A guy named Sam sends a message to our hero. This man will say he was murdered and the message started automatically when his heart stopped beating.
Moving into a futuristic Seattle, you’ll have to try to find out the truth. Besides, you will come across some unsavory characters who will offer you rewards if you do particular jobs. Will you be a good detective or will you be transported to the dark side of the city? The choice is yours!
I must say that I loved the setting of the game. During your adventure, you will be able to move into a world that mixes fantasy and cyberpunk elements. The magic/sci-fi style is wonderful, as is the design of the settings. I’m not hiding the fact that the city of Seattle reminded me of Blade Runner’s Los Angeles or Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City.
Without a doubt, I can say that this game is a gem when it comes to the atmosphere!
Character progression in Shadowrun Returns
The Shadowrun series comes from a well-known RPG board game. From it, the game acquired the character’s customization and progression system.
You can create your hero by choosing your race. Your character can be a human, an elf, a troll, an ogre, or a dwarf. Do not underestimate this choice, as your race gives you exclusive abilities. Also, pay attention to the class of your character. The latter will determine your style of play and will enhance specific skills.
In my gameplay, I preferred the Decker class, a kind of hacker that allows you to access cyberspace. Yes, I prefer science fiction to fantasy. I recommend it but remember to choose the class of your character according to your tastes.
Plus, your character may evolve as you advance through the story. I suggest you do the secondary quests of the game. Some of them are even more interesting than the main one. By completing the different tasks, you will receive the karma points, which are essential if you want to upgrade your hero.
