Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is a game I’ve been thinking about a lot lately. Since the announcement of the remake of the first chapter of the Prince of Persia franchise, I have done nothing but try to rediscover this game.

I remembered how this chapter had good ideas and enjoyable gameplay. Well, I recently replayed it and I have to say that some of my positive feelings have been confirmed. Why? Well, find out in my review of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands.

A little history study

The hero, the prince, the man

Before we go into the actual review of the game, I want to make a premise. The Forgotten Sands is the latest game in the saga. That’s right, and it was released almost ten years ago. It seems like an eternity, but you know, Ubisoft has decided to focus on another success saga that you may have heard of.

So, remember that I will analyze a game a little dated, but that as the good wine has aged well. At this point, I think we can also introduce the main plot of the game. We arrive on horseback in the lands controlled by our brother Malik. To our dismay, we note that the kingdom is in disarray and was attacked by an army called Solomon’s Army. It is not just an armed force, but a fierce army of terrible creatures and bloodthirsty monsters.

It will be up to us to restore peace to the kingdom. Thanks to our swords, magical abilities, and spectacular parkour we could shoot down enemies. In short, a real return to the origins of the saga.

Exciting, isn’t it?

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, action gameplay and parkour

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands parkour

That’s right, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is a real homecoming. That’s why fans of the saga should play it without thinking twice. But how does this affect the gameplay?

As in the first chapters, here you have to be very quick and move with spectacular acrobatics between the various areas of the game. You won’t have to think much and your reflexes will be tested. Of course, the first few times you may feel whipped for the game over, but this is not a difficult game like Code Vein for example.

Besides, I enjoyed the platforming stages, they are cured and never too trivial. I like to see the care of the movements during parkour, which I also enjoyed in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Regardless, the gameplay doesn’t just consist of fast platformer stages. You’ll also have to eliminate the monstrous enemies in your path. It will be crucial to succeed in making the right combos and destroy hordes of enemies with a few strokes. An interesting innovation compared to the other chapters of the series is in the power-ups.

As you progress through your adventure, you can unlock elemental powers and gain more strength during combat. This will allow you to get out of complicated situations. Also, I advise you to use these powers carefully during boss fights.

Power ups in the game

Some might say that compared to the first chapters this game is much simpler. Well, that’s partly true, but all in all the experience is enjoyable. However, the flaws of the game are others and now we will analyze just those.

Graphics and longevity: don’t fall so low prince!

Graphics and longevity

I like the saga of Prince of Persia. But there are some things that unfortunately in this chapter I have to criticize. You know that I don’t consider graphics to be a fundamental aspect. I often appreciate games that aren’t photorealistic. I also understand that the game was released ten years ago and I know that the technical aspect has made huge strides in recent years.

Regardless, I think there’s incredible graphic potential in a game like Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. The exotic setting, the desert, the colors, the atmosphere: in short, it could be a masterpiece for the eyes. From this point of view, I must say that the game has disappointed me.

If we talk about longevity then, well, the situation is even worse. I know it’s not an open-world game and I didn’t expect 30 hours of play. However, the gaming experience lasts a maximum of 9-10 hours. Too little for a game that could guarantee many more hours of gameplay. Besides, we’re talking about a nice game and I’m almost mad to know it’s so short.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, then, is it worth a try?

In this review, we analyzed positive and negative things. We saw how the gameplay of the game is exciting and full of adrenaline. We have also considered the flaws of this chapter. Ultimately, is it worth trying it out?

In my opinion, it is. It is the classic game that can keep you busy for several hours without getting you thinking too much. If you are a fan of the saga then you must have it in your collection. You can find the game at a special price in our store. If you have already tried it, then share your opinion with the Indiegala community.

With this game, you can be the Prince of Persia, a hero with sensational powers to destroy evil: what a life huh?
