No, not looking back at the Planet Coaster franchise. I’m looking back at the movie Ghostbusters franchise. Why you might ask? Well, because of two reasons. First and foremost we do have Planet Coaster: Ghostbusters currently on sale hare at IndieGala.

And secondly, because there will be a brand new Ghostbusters movie in the theaters (hopefully next year). Indeed Ghostbusters: Afterlife is scheduled to be released in March 2021, and I can hardly wait to be honest. Who knows how will things turn out with the ongoing pandemic, but I’m hopeful. But before I move to the upcoming movie (a third sequel to be precise), there are three others to mention as well, and well… It’s not the easiest of tasks, I know. However, a word or two about the DLC that inspired this post is in order. So, without further ado…
Planet Coaster Ghostbusters And What’s With The Game?
Developed and published by Frontier Developments, Planet Coaster is proud to introduce its most ambitious content pack, Planet Coaster: Ghostbusters.
Furthermore, the pack boasts a brand new, story-driven scenario and employs the talents of Dan Aykroyd and William Atherton. That’s right. Both of them voice their roles from the 1984 classic. The iconic Ghostbusters’ co-founder, Raymond Stantz, and Special Agent Walter Peck, no less.

And last but certainly not least, there’s an authentic scenery piece and sounds straight from the 1984 original movie. Ghostbusters: The Movie That Started It All
What Is there to be said about the 1984 Ghostbusters? That it hasn’t been said before? It’s iconic, it’s funny, scary and entertaining at the same time. There’s not a single movie of the era that blended action, comedy and horror quite in a way that Ghostbusters did it. I guess that’s the true test of time. I guess it’s also a true testament of Bill Murray’s comedic genius, but if you’ve seen Stripes and Caddyshack before you know that already. His deadpan delivery is on point and the lines are iconic. Aside from being funny, it was also very scary indeed. Like very scary.
I mean, the library scene freaked the hell out of me as a kid. Also, my little sister still refuses to watch the movie to this day. Because of that scene! I suppose the trauma is still fresh, but I do. I do watch it. To this day actually, and i’m a grown woman. It’s one of those pick me up movies that I have on my repertoire. Whenever I’m sad or sick, I just put it on and it makes everything feel better. And it was in this movie that I just connected with the character of Egon. He was basically a fictitious, male and a much older version of me. Tall, awkward nerd with glasses that was always the serious one in the crowd. I also don’t do sarcasm very well and well… I’m told that I have a dry and very weird sense of humor. Yup. Egon all right.
And I just loved how this movie was silly and fun and it didn’t take itself way too seriously. Which is not something I can say about the sequel as well.
Ghostbusters 2: Good Idea, Bad Execution Of That Idea
Remember how I told ya that the first movie didn’t take itself way too seriously? Well, the sequel took it all that goofy cynical and dark humor and through it out the window. Instead, the movie gave us a message about being more positive, kind and understanding towards each other. Ughhhhhhhhhhh. Why can’t they stick to the usual formula in the tone and atmosphere? I get the attempt to make it kid-friendly but instead of making it a more raunchy and let’s face it… darker… The sequel became more pandering and preachy too. And not in a good way.
Look, I understood the message and all, but come on. That was uncalled for. Not to mention that the movie was more or less a copy of the first one. But now, you can just feel that the momentum is gone. It’s been 5 years, between the two movies and in Hollywood that’s ages. Not to mention, all the things that made the original movie great here are either replicated or watered down. Oh, and they made Tully a Ghostbuster! Look, I love Rick Moranis but come on! Imagine how badass Ellen Ripley would have been in that suit? But I digress.
The All-Female Cast Of Ghostbusters!
Which brings me to everyone’s favorite Ghostbuster movie! Just kidding. I didn’t like it either, and I’m a woman. Again, I got the concept, but the execution was all wrong. It felt forced, desperate and unnatural. Although I must agree that he casting of Kate McKinnon, was one of the best casting decisions ever made. Seriously. Every single one of the actors pretty much sucked, but Kate was on point. That’s right. I’m looking at you Leslie Jones and Chris Hemsworth. This is a nice experiment that happened to fail spectacularly but hey. At least Hollywood learned a lesson in force-feeding ups with pushy blatant agendas. Or did he?
A Bright Look Into The Future?
But don’t despair Ghostbuster fans! As I previously mentioned, there’s an upcoming Ghostbusters movie just around the corner. Well, if you consider March 2021 just around the corner, but Ghostbusters: Afterlife is the current title. Will it be the redemption for all the bad movies that we had to suffer? I don’t really know, but I’m digging the cast and crew. First and foremost it’s directed by Jason Reitman (Ivan Reitman’s son). And aside from the original actors (minus Harold Ramis), everyone is returning. Even Annie Potts. But I’m also digging the new additions to the cast. Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, and the young blood in the form of Mckenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard. That’s right. The kid from Stranger Things will put on the proton pack once again. But this time in a proper Ghostbusters movie.
