Overgrown: Genesis

From all the games that I write about there are some that are still a novelty for me. Case in point Overgrown: Genesis. I’d never thought that I’d be writing about adult content video games. But that’s where the challenge lies. Besides, I was getting a bit tired of the usual simulation game. Golf, Ski Jumping and Sports simulation-based video games have become regulars for me this particular month. I’m not complaining though. Far from it. I just welcome the changes.

Overgrown: Genesis Is Something Different On My Agenda

As I said…. It’s nice to spice things up once in a while with something different. Well, to be fair not that different, since Overgrown: Genesis is in its core a survival horror game. And I’ve written a lot about survival horror games before. But this is a game with a twist. A very different twist. So, because of this hybrid in genres (let’s call it that) I’m going with a different list of movie recommendations.

Full disclosure. I’m not certain that erotic movies with a zombie apocalypse in the middle of the story exist. I would not be surprised if they did. So, I’m going with the good old sexy horror movies. Horror movies that are charged with sexual tension, hella sexy love scenes and by all accounts are considered sexy. I’m also including some art-house indie or „artsy“ flicks and of course mainstream sexy horror movies as well. The best of both worlds if you will.

However, before I go any further, I feel that I need to explain the game itself too.

Overgrown: Genesis And What’s The Game All About?

A zombie outbreak ravages the world. Will you be able to survive and fend off the shuffling hordes of zombies? We sure hope so. But, in Overgrown: Genesis you play as a former mechanical engineer. And until now, you’ve been able to find shelter in what remains of human civilization. After a job gone wrong, you find yourself on the wrong side of the barricades. Therefore you must fight your way back to safety. Little do you know, getting home will soon be the least of your worries. What ensues next will be the biggest surprise on your entire mission.

Overgrown: Genesis is just one little part of our TinyHat Studios sale, here at IndieGala. You can freely check out the rest of the games in the very same sale, and pick the best for you.

So with that in mind, let’s get back to some of my picks of sexy horror movies. Which ones made the cut? Scroll down to find out.

Only Lovers Left Alive

What do you get when you make a movie with Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleson in the lead roles? An almost masterpiece indeed. Directed by Jim Jarmusch, Only Lovers Left Alive is exactly that. Not to mention, that the names of the lead roles are Adam and Eve. How cool is that? However, Jarmusch later revealed they’re simply a nod to Mark Twain’s satirical work The Diaries of Adam and Eve. Not the biblical figures Adam and Eve. But the movie is also filled with other cultural references as well. From the literary heroes of Jarmusch to the musical ones. They’re all in there in one way or another.

But in its core, Only Lovers Left Alive is about the two reunited lovers. And how their world will become turned upside down by the arrival of Eve’s baby sister. And although the two main characters are vampires (the supporting characters, are too), the word “vampire” is never used in the movie. Finally, did you know that both Tom and Tilda are part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Indeed. Tom portrays the role of Loki in MCU, while Tilda is The Ancient One in Doctor Strange. And both of them appeared in Avengers Endgame, but didn’t share scenes. Besides, they’re both excellent here too. Only Lovers Left Alive is worth checking out.

The Hunger

It’s directed by Tony Scott (as his first feature movie) and with the incredible Catherine Deneuve, David Bowie, and Susan Sarandon in the lead roles. The Hunger is truly an incredible erotic horror, with fantastic sexually charged scenes. And the great cast, don’t you think? Also, it stood the test of time in good taste and quality. Not to mention, it’s now a cult classic of the ’80s, that’s revered by fans and critics alike. But what’s it all about? Well, about a love triangle that develops between a vampire, her cellist companion, and a gerontologist. And in case you didn’t love David Bowie enough already, you’ll love him even more after these few facts. Are you ready?

He learned to play the cello for his music scenes. And that distinct voice that Bowie has in this movie? Well, he stood on the George Washington Bridge every night and screamed all the punk rock songs he knew. To make his voice suitably hoarse of course. And much like with the previous movie, nobody says the word ‘vampire’ out loud. Oh, and that the famous love scene between Catherine Deneuve and Susan Sarandon? Well, as expected, this movie had closed set, away from the praying eye of the entire crew. This is a must-watch movie for several reasons, but most importantly because it’s sexy and amazing.

Jennifer’s Body

It’s one of the few movies that are directed and written by women. Not to mention, there are two female actresses in the leads as well. However, this is Diablo Cody’s sophomore screenwriting attempt, which came after the highly successful Oscar-winning movie Juno. But did you know that Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried both consider this movie as their favorite movie? Out of their entire filmography? That’s also true.

And much like with The Hunger, the movie got the cult status much later after the release. However, Jennifer’s Body is often compared to the Canadian werewolf film Ginger Snaps (2000). That’s right. Both films involve two female characters that are close at first but become enemies later. But I just had to include Jennifer’s Body on this list. It’s really a good watch.

Species

This is one of my favorite 90’s movies. It’s still a very underrated movie (by some accounts), but it’s slowly getting the attention and recognition it deserves. And why is it so underrated? Well, because of both the cast and the crew. This was Natasha Henstridge’s debut movie, but do you know which actress plays the younger version of her character Sil? Michelle Williams. However, the outstanding Ben Kingsley, Michael Madsen, Forest Whitaker and Alfred Molina compose the supporting cast, and it’s a really good movie.

But part of the crew – was the one, the only and the iconic H. R. Giger. Indeed, the Oscar winner designed Sil and had some incredible influence on the production as well. And what an influence that was. For instance, MGM opted not to shoot the “nightmare train” sequence to keep costs down. But, H.R. Giger was not having any of their BS. So, he spent one hundred thousand dollars of his own money to finance the sequence. It had to be done. That’s influence.

The Neon Demon

Possibly the most recent movie on this list, but also the weirdest one. A jaw-dropping movie if you will. And I know that I mentioned Nicolas Winding Refn in my Death Stranding post, but this time he’s behind the camera. The Neon Demon is a psychological horror as much as it is a weird satire about the superficiality of the fashion industry. And the competitive nature that roams in the industry as well. There’s always a quest for new fresh faces, and it’s a vicious circle that only a few can survive.

However, did you know that Elle Fanning was sixteen years old when the film started shooting? Indeed. She turned seventeen during filming, and eighteen years old when the film premiered. Oh, and when filming was to resume, Nicolas Winding Refn wouldn’t yell “Action!” to set things in motion. Instead, he yelled “Violence, motherf*****s”. Cool right? And you know what else is cool? The fact that despite having so many vibrant colors in the visual presentation of the movie, the director who made it is actually color-blind. Think about that the next time you’ll be watching The Neon Demon. Watch it if you have the chance.

  1. I could never “get over” the horror aspect of traditionally “sexy” horror movies. Examples of these “sexy” horror movies that were to me not so sexy are Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992), Cat People (1982), or Species (1995). Instead, I find myself turned on by cute subtext. The will-they/won’t-they nascent relationships. Zombieland’s Columbus vs. Wichita. 28 Days Later’s Jim meets Selena. The Lost Boys’ Michael and Star.
