One Piece Odyssey

One Piece Odyssey is next for us. Why? Well, because it’s the game we’re most excited about at the start of the new year. But hey. It’s not like we didn’t tackle other One Piece Games here at IndieGala. We wrote about the OG One Piece game several times in fact. One article was about the lore and fandom that the main character has (the one and only Monkey D. Luffy). While the other article was more focused on the franchise and what’s gonna come out of it. You know… For the fans of course. You can check out that article here.

However, we’re here about One Piece Odyssey and we need more info about the upcoming game. It’s gonna be a good one for sure.

One Piece Odyssey

So, with that being said… What’s One Piece Odyssey all about?

Developed by ILCA, Inc. and published by BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment, One Piece Odyssey is a fantastic RPG for the One Piece fan in you. A new RPG from the hugely popular manga and anime series ONE PIECE, that actually commemorates the 25th anniversary of the series!

The famed pirate, Monkey. D. Luffy, and his Straw Hat Crew, are sailing across the New World in search of the next island and the next adventure that awaits them.

But during their voyage they are caught in a storm and shipwrecked. So, they find themselves washed up on a lush tropical island surrounded by constantly raging storms…

Separated from his crew, Luffy sets off on a grand, new adventure to find his friends and escape the island! But don’t forget. Dangerous new enemies, terrifying forces of nature, and more await them!

You can Pre-Purchase One Piece Oddysey here at IndieGala.

One Piece Odyssey VS One Piece The TV show

Yes. And what about those updates we mentioned about the TV show? Sure…The game will be released shortly. But what about the TV show?

Well, it’s not exactly following the footsteps of Odyssey. Although the exact release date is still unknown, many sources claim it’s gonna happen in 2023. However, the cast and crew are working hard on that strenuous post-production. You know, since the principal production ended in South Africa back in August 2022. But yeah. The main Straw Hat cast includes the likes of Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp. Oh and Taz Skylar as Sanji along with many other characters.

A Positive Message From Oda?

It kinda is. Look, we know that the first season will consist of ten episodes. With Marc Jobst directing the first two. Much like the rest of the productions, this one also got delayed because of Covid-19. But Netflix did release a sneak peak video of the famous ship, and part of the cast as well. You can check it out here.

And yes. Even Oda, the creator of One Piece gave his positive and uplifting update via Twitter. “The One Piece Hollywood live-action is making progress,” Oda began in his message while noting all of the One Piece projects now in the works for a release in 2023. As he noted about the footage shot for the series. While he was nervous about it at first, it’s looking “amazing” to the creator so far. “For now, we have the base footage of Season 1. So much went on behind the scenes. But if I’m being honest, the most worried person in the world that this will turn out good is me lol…But it actually looks amazing!!!”

That actually fills us with plenty of hope actually. Since the creator is happy with the TV adaptation of his own work… Then there’s no reason to doubt that it’s gonna be less than stellar? Well, time will tell on that.

But… Is There Cause For Concern?

Well, Netflix and manga adaptations have not been BFF’s lately. That’s an understatement really. And we have a brief but very depressing history of that to show ya. Which understandably have made the fans a bit cautious about any upcoming Netflix adaptation of manga or anime. Anime fans have always been somewhat hesitant about live-action anime adaptations. With Netflix itself canceling Cowboy Bebop following its first season. And let’s not forget the terrible Netflix adaptation of the iconic Death Note. But yeah. Optimism shall prevail here, and much like with the other Netflix TV shows, we can only hope that One Piece will get more than one season.

And of course… Are You Hyped About One Piece Odyssey?
