Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom I think is one of the most exciting games I’ve ever tried. That’s right, sometimes I can be emotional. I had spoken little about it in my article on games to try in quarantine, but I want to deepen the topic with this review.

To be honest, this title deserves a follow-up. But enough with the premises here’s what you need to know about this game.

A fairytale plot with dreamy graphics

Usually, I prefer to consider the graphics and technical aspects of a videogame at the end of a review; well, this time I want to make an exception. From the very first moment, you will be amazed by the colorful and magical graphics of Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom.

Do you know the animated films of the brilliant master Hayao Miyazaki? Well, with this game you will find the same atmosphere. However, unlike a simple movie, with this RPG adventure, you can experience the inimitable style environments.

The unique design of the characters will make you love every feature. Trust me, you will feel astonished and amazed, just like a child who admires the Christmas lights! Moreover, the graphic style fits perfectly with the plot of the game.

Evan, the main character of Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom

You’re Evan, a prince who lives in a fairy kingdom called Ding Dong Dell. Life goes on peacefully until your father, the King of Ding Dong Dell, is assassinated. To avoid disastrous consequences, you will flee and roam the lands of the fairy world in search of the truth. On your way, you will meet many allies, but also fierce enemies who will want to eliminate you. Your ultimate goal will be to bring peace to the kingdom, trying to destroy wickedness.

It’s easy, isn’t it? Just like in the best JRPG (Tales of Vesperia intensifies) in Ni No Kuni there are profound themes. Sometimes you will be amazed by the depth of some dialogues and the emotions that will make you feel. Arguments like loyalty and justice are analyzed in the right way, without ever falling into meaningless rhetoric.

I mean, you should give it a chance and try it if you’ve never done it before.

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom and the combat gameplay

The combat system

Honestly, graphics and plot are nine out of ten, so what about the gameplay? Again you will not be disappointed. First, I want to shift the focus to the combat system. If you are a fan of the JRPG genre, you will know that the fight takes place in turn. This game developed by Level 5, takes this system but combines innovative and modern details.

The entire combat system is a mix of action and dynamism. Every fight will be exciting and you will have freedom of movement. Of course, you will have light attacks and heavy attacks, you will have to be wise to use them at the right time and against the appropriate opponent. Don’t forget to use the Higgledies, which are little sprites that can give you bonuses during a battle. If you choose them carefully, you can overcome even the most difficult obstacles.

Plus, you will also need to use the characters in your party with balance. In this way, you will be able to create different tactics. With the right creativity, you can become unbearable. Initially, the gameplay may seem simple, but during your adventure will be increasingly varied and interesting.

Ultimately, you will have fun for hours trying new strategies and facing competitive enemies.

Explore different areas

Different areas in Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom

In the game, you can explore different areas. Mainly, you can visit a wide open world, a large landscape that presents multiple points of interest. Inside the open world, some characters will give you secondary quests. Some may seem silly or unprofitable, but don’t underestimate them! You must remember that every mission is crucial, especially if you want to keep your kingdom’s subjects happy.

In addition to the large open areas, you can also visit villages, cities, and dungeons. Ni No Kuni II is full of details and places to see. No environment will be like another and you can always be fascinated by an original and amazing design.

Run a kingdom? Of course, I can!

Ni No Kuni II management mode

In Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom you will also have the opportunity to manage a kingdom. Not surprisingly, the main purpose of the plot is to become the king of your land and give peace to your subjects. You will be able to demonstrate your skills as a ruler through the Kingdom Management Mode. As with Mother Base in MGS V, you’ll have to customize a small land, trying to build stores, reinforcing defenses, and expanding scientific research.

Even if you don’t like management games, I assure you that this mode is addictive, you will love it because it is a fantastic part of the gameplay.

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom, which version to choose?

Ultimately, Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is a game I recommend you try. It can give you unforgettable moments and be the videogame you were looking for. I promise you, it never gets old, I think I’ve spent more than 50 hours of gameplay on it. However, maybe you wonder which version you need to buy.

If you want to try a complete experience, I suggest you choose the Prince’s Edition. You will have additional content that will involve you more in the game. Alternatively, you can choose the classic edition of the game.

Besides, you can also try the first chapter of the Ni No Kuni saga, a game that has a different plot, despite some small links to the sequel. But that’s another story and maybe I’ll talk about it in another review!

Do you have what it takes to rule a kingdom and get peace? Prove it now and make good triumph in the land of Ding Dong Dell.
