NASCAR Heat 5

To be honest, the NASCAR Heat 5 post is the first for me. Well at least first in the acclaimed game series anyway. Sure I’ve had the pleasure to write about other racing simulation games. First, there’s the ever-wonderful, Assetto Corsa. And there’s the fun and exciting Project Cars series. I’ve also written about it, and you check it out here. But yeah. NASCAR is a brand new experience and I intend to relish it.

NASCAR Heat 5 And The Glory That Is Nascar

Indeed. I’ve written about plenty of racing companies and competitions before. From Supercross Motorcycle Racing to F1. But NASCAR is very much different. It’s stock car racing and each year, NASCAR sanctions over 1,500 races at over 100 tracks in 48 US states. As well as in Canada, Mexico, and Europe, but yeah. It’s extremely popular in the US and has been since the inception in 1948.

Just simply fun and good close racing. rookie-friendly smooth running platform. Says Mcnasty.

But which movies go well with this particular game? Scroll down to find out.

Logan Lucky

It’s a funny and exciting heist movie. That just happens to have a fantastic director and an incredibly talented cast. Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, Riley Keough, Seth MacFarlane, Katie Holmes, Hilary Swank, Katherine Waterston, and Sebastian Stan are part of the cast. But for me, a true standout here is Daniel Craig. With his bleached blonde hair and southern accent, Craig is fantastic as Joe Bang. A notorious criminal with a safe-cracking talent. Now, Steven Soderbergh is no stranger to the heist movie. After all, he’s responsible for the Ocean’s trilogy. But this is different. It’s got that southern charm, NASCAR races, great humor and it’s really a good movie. Highly recommended here.

Fun fact: The ring worn by Adam Driver was the same ring worn by Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) in Justified (2010).

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

It’s Adam McKay at it’s probably silliest. But this is another great movie that’s a whole package. It’s got a great director behind the camera, and a fantastic cast in front of it. Will Farrell and John C. Rilley are top-notch as usual. But over here in Talladega Nights, Sacha Baron Cohen stole the show. However, Talladega Nights is also a movie about the thrive for winning, as much as it’s about the dangers of sports rivalry. Not to mention plenty of satire and good humor to keep your belly laughing until the very end of the 108 minutes of runtime. It’s a must-watch for everyone. Not just any NASCAR fan. Every comedy fan in general.

Fun fact: According to Steve Carell, Will Ferrell wanted him to reunite with him for this film. But he couldn’t do the film due to scheduling conflicts.

Speed For Glory

Speed For Glory is not a well-known movie (well compared to the previous two), but it still belongs on this list. Directed by Julio Bracho, and Jorge Luquín, Speed Of Glory is about chasing the dream. When Rogelio Ramirez makes a transfer to the rival team, he’ll start to experience personal and professional hardships. His decision will not come without consequences, so it’s up to him to endure them. Ari Brickman, Rocío Verdejo, Marina de Tavira are part of the cast here. And if you’re a fan of Mexican cinema and racing movies, then this is the perfect pick for you.

Fun fact: The Music is composed by Antonio Tranquilino.

Days of Thunder

One of Tony Scott’s finest movies don’t you think? A true classic in every sense of the word. Not to mention, it has an incredible cast and out-of-this-world action sequences. Young Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman are in the lead roles here. But Robert Duvall, Randy Quaid, Cary Elwes, Caroline Williams, and Michael Rooker are great in the supporting ones. And Tom is Cole Trickle in Days Of Thunder. A young hot-shot stock car driver gets his chance to compete at the top level. NASCAR racing is a high-pressure world. Especially for young rookies. But the troubles of his temper and ambition will get the better of him, and things will get interesting from there. As I mentioned, earlier, this is an instant classic and a must-watch movie for every racing fan.

Fun fact: Tom Cruise wanted Kurt Russell for the role of Rowdy Burns. It was through Cruise that Russell became aware of “Backdraft (1991).”

The Last American Hero

The Last American Hero is the oldest movie on this list. But definitely one of the best. And in it, young Jeff Bridges has the lead role. That of Junior Jackson. A restless young man and a talented driver. But after experiencing private hardships, he’ll enter the world of NASCAR driving with hopes that he’ll win the main prize. Gary Busey has a supporting role here. And so do the Hollywood legends, Geraldine Fitzgerald and Ned Beatty. This is a great movie inspired by real-life events and people. With fantastic performances and a good script, this is a must watch movie too. It deserves your attention for sure.

Fun fact: Junior Johnson himself served as technical advisor for the film.
