Monkey D. Luffy

Monkey D. Luffy is a novelty for me. A character I’ve not encountered in my previous articles and as you may know… I look forward to some new topics and challenges. Luckily for me, I have plenty of those here at IndieGala, so this article is gonna be fun. At least for me, but I’m hoping for you as well. Much like the fascinating Captain Tsubasa character l discovered last year. And of course, Vegeta. Probably the most interesting character in the Dragon Ball franchise. Sorry not sorry.

But honestly, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 prompted this article and I couldn’t pass the opportunity to write about the most iconic character of the series. The one and only Monkey D. Luffy. He’s a fascinating character and I’m sad that I didn’t get the chance to write about him sooner. However, better late than never, I say. And with that in mind… Let me present Monkey D. Luffy and the game that he came with.

Monkey D. Luffy Is The Star Of One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4… But What’s The Game All About?

Developed by KOEI TECMO GAMES and published by BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is an action-adventure video game for the adventurer in you.

ONE PIECE: PIRATE WARRIORS 4 is the latest evolution of PIRATE WARRIORS action! It’s also based on the concept of experiencing a real ONE PIECE battlefield. So, buildings will come crashing down during the action and attacks will throw up smoke and dust. Placing you in the thick of the ONE PIECE world!

Great Story With Fantastic Characters!

Yeah. This story takes the unfinished Wano arc and modifies the plot. With Cavendish and Bartolomeo appearing in the arc to help the captured Straw Hat crew escape their cells. And here’s the kicker. This arc has an original ending while the manga Wano arc is continuing. Sounds cool right? We thought so too.

The game is a sequel to the 2015 game One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 of course. And in case you are wondering we do have both of these games here at IndieGala. They’re available for purchase here and here (you’re welcome). But we’re also proud to present Episode passes and Deluxe editions as well. Just click here and pick the best form of entertainment for you.

And What Are Some Of The Steam User Comments Saying About It?

*Scrubbles says: This game truly is the best MUSUO title I’ve ever played before in my life! They really have innovated the musuo genre by adding in a lot of new battle, and movement mechanics that makes me feel like a Big RUBBER GOD that can fly over and nut on all of his opponents with ease. 10/10

*While HeavensRave adds: I’ve 100% the game on PS4 and loved every minute of it. The characters are all unique and fun with different play styles for everyone. It’s the definition of a musuo game in my opinion.

And What’s So Special About Monkey D. Luffy You Ask?

Well, I feel that before I dive into the specifics of the character, I must present the basics of the character. Like with many of the characters I’ve written before, I feel that I must say that my poor long-suffering husband was a huge help in my writing of this article. He’s in fact a huge fan of the One Piece series and yeah. I’ve got to give him credit where credit is due. I would have been stuck without him honestly. But back to the topic at hand. Monkey D. Luffy. He’s the main protagonist of the One Piece manga series, created by Eiichiro Oda.

He also made his debut in One Piece Chapter #1 as a boy who acquires the properties of rubber. Right after he accidentally (but not really) eats, the supernatural Gum-Gum Fruit. But at the same time, this is a boy who always dreamed of becoming a pirate. And the age of 17, Luffy sets sail from the East Blue Sea to the Grand Line. Why? Because of several reasons. First, he embarks on an adventurous search of the legendary treasure- One Piece. And secondly to succeed Gol D. Roger as “King of the Pirates”.

Monkey D. Luffy Is Fascinating

You may also call him ” Straw Hat Luffy“ and of course “Straw Hat” in short. But yeah he’s the founder and captain of the increasingly infamous and powerful Straw Hat Pirates. As well as one of its top fighters. And he believes that being the Pirate King means having the most freedom in the world. But in terms of his personal appearance, he’s also memorable. His straw hat is iconic indeed, but his outfit is instantly recognizable too.

The short, blue trousers with cuffs, sandals and a sleeveless red vest are sooo cute. Luffy also has a scar with two stitches underneath his left eye. Which he earned by stabbing a knife under his eye to show Shanks that he was tough and not afraid of pain. And yeah. Luffy uses his elasticity to concentrate his power, executing a range of attacks. But the thing is, because of the popularity of the series, he’s become of the most recognizable characters in the world. No joke. The fact that I recently discovered him is an unfortunate flaw on my part.

He’s An Interesting Yet Flawed Character

I must say… Researching Monkey D. Luffy was a fun experience. I watched a ton of episodes of course and the internet helped with filling out the blanks. But in a nutshell, I loved Luffy’s brotherly relationship with Usopp the most. But for a person that likes to blur out stuff, he’s also a firm believer in actions. Not just empty words. Oh, and I was impressed with his character progression too. Yeah, it’s slow and barely noticeable, but it’s there. I even enjoyed his fights too, but when I mentioned he’s layered… I meant it. For instance, he doesn’t like to be acknowledged as a hero. And although cheerful, he can become aggressive when he fights. He’s a character that you can easily end up liking. And for good reason. He’s fun, adventurous and oh so memorable.

In Search Of Freedom!

However, among all of the attributes i can say about him, the characteristics that I like about him the most is his utter selflessness. He always prioritizes the safety of others. And what I get from this character (for the most part anyway) is how simple yet understated he is. I mean, for me at least, he represents the human will. He’s a force of nature that longs for freedom, adventure and is unapologetic about it. Here’s a good example. Oda made the One Piece villains masters of control and captivity.

Basically, anything that goes against the freedom that Luffy loves. And we have, on the other hand, a man of completely opposite ideals. A man who absolutely despises them for what they represent. And for a man who lacks general intelligence, he sure makes up for that with his abundance of emotional intelligence. Sometimes the emotional intelligence is far more valuable for sure. Oh and yeah. He doesn’t wear this dumb persona as a façade. He is just what he is. And I respect that. It’s empowering to show your true self at all times.

A Character That’s Easy To Like And Admire

Why? Well, beneath the layers I mentioned earlier, Luffy is a character that has more positive characteristics under his belt. Rather than negative of course. For instance, since Luffy never had a family of his own, he treats his own nakamas as household members. Isn’t that sweet? Sometimes family goes beyond flesh and bond, and sometimes family is what you make of it. He gives a totally new meaning to the word family that’s for sure. Furthermore, he doesn’t seem particularly interested in money and treasures. Yes, his aspirations go farther than that, but mostly because his final goal is (and always will be) FREEDOM. And if that doesn’t make you like him, then I don’t know what will.
