Matrix

Writing about Keanu Reeves is a delight. Let alone about The Matrix Resurrections. One of his 2 upcoming movies movie. Not, for me it’s been a true pleasure. Why? Well, because I’ve been a fan of Keanu since I saw him in Flying. The gymnastics movie from the mid-’80s with Olivia d’Abo in the lead role. He played the goofy yet supportive love interest of Olivia’s character and well… That did it for me. And I’ve not been shy about my love and admiration towards him even here. At IndieGala no less.

Just a while back I talked about the John Wick film series and how it deals with the portrayal of violence (check it out here). And about Keanu… Well, there’s a cool list of some of my favorite Keanu Reeves movies (there are five movies on that list and you can go back to it here). From Point Break to Constantine. And of course. The Matrix is there as well. Sure I’ll get to the Matrix in a minute. I’ll just need to present the game that inspired this article. John Wick Heck.

What’s John Wick Hex All About You Might Ask?

John Wick Hex is a neo-noir action strategy video game based on the John Wick franchise. Developed by Bithell Games and published by Good Shepherd Entertainment, John Wick Heck makes you think and strike like John Wick. The professional hitman of the critically acclaimed film franchise. And in it, you must make quick decisions and choose every action and attack they make. All the while considering their immediate cost and consequences.

Also, you get to experience an original new story set before the events of the films. Which sees John on a desperate mission to rescue Winston and Charon from a dangerous new adversary seeking his birthright. Furthermore, this story is brought to life by the world-class voice talents of Ian McShane and Lance Reddick. Reprising their iconic roles from the films respectively. And there’s the voice acting legend Troy Baker, who joins the stellar cast as the game’s eponymous villain ‘Hex’.

“One of the best movie adaptations of all time and an impressively original strategy game that manages to rival even the best action titles in terms of tension and adrenaline rush.”

9/10 – says Metro.

But What Are Some Of The Steam User Comments Saying About It?

*You play as John Wick. I said everything you need to hear. 10/10 would kill a guy with a pencil again. Says 76561197960617503.

*Amazing. Adds seanzilla007.

John Wick Heck is available for purchase here at IndieGala.

But right here in this article, another movie takes center stage. Or a rather different franchise. The Matrix franchise of course. However, what I’m going to present here is the upcoming Matrix 4 movie. The Matrix Resurrections is the title and I feel I must present it to the audience.

The Matrix Resurrections: Cast, Crew And Beyond

You’ve probably seen it. The Matrix Resurrections trailer was released this summer, and I for one was not that impressed. I don’t know what it is, but the trailer screamed low quality. Both in editing and composition. And for a piece of video that should supposedly make me hyped up about seeing the movie… It did very little of that. It did not grab my interest, to say the least. But the optimist in me still has hopes about the movie. Which should come out in December 2021. Yup. Just a few months away guys. Are you excited? I know I am.

But back to the topic at hand. The Matrix Resurrections. Keanu is back in the role of Neo, and Carrie-Anne Moss is back as Trinity. And Jada Pinkett Smith is back as Niobe too. Oh, and I can’t forget about Daniel Bernhardt who will play Agent Johnson yet again. And Lambert Wilson is back in the cast yet again. But there are not that many from the old trilogy here in the fourth installment. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II takes over the role of Morpheus. Jessica Henwick, Lambert Wilson, Jonathan Groff are brand new additions to the cast as well. Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Christina Ricci, Telma Hopkins are also in the fourth installment. While Eréndira Ibarra, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt, Brian J. Smith, Andrew Caldwell, and Ellen Hollman complete the cast.

The Similarities Are Here: Matrix Resurrections VS John Wick

You’ve noticed it too? The similarities between Neo and John Wick are quite similar, and even the audience took noticed of this. Right under the official trailer on YouTube you can clearly see thousands upon thousands of user comments that are pointing out the same. How much Keanu Reeves’s character Neo looks like John Wick in the Matrix Resurrections trailer. Some even hypothesized that John Wick was Neo this whole time.

But those are simply theories and nothing is proven by now. Meaning, these two characters are somehow connected in the same multiverse. But we’ll leave that to the conspiracy theorists to ponder. However, Keanu’s new look in Matrix Resurrections raises a lot of eyebrows. His previously clean-shaven and groomed look is now disheveled. You can see the beard that John Wick sports in all of the John Wick movies, and his hair is longer as well. Coincidence? Maybe… Maybe not. Time will tell.

The Matrix Resurrections

Cool Website For A Cool Movie?

Indeed. WarnerBros, even launched a cool website in order too promote the movie and it’s available for every fan to visit. The Choice Is Yours interactive website (available here) asks the users to choose between a blue pill and a red pill. A nice nod to the original Matrix movie don’t you think? The blue pill will help you stay with the status quo and continue accepting the world you live in as reality. However the red pill signifies your willingness to start questioning everything and head down the rabbit hole. It will help you enter the Matrix and explore it to it’s max.

“You take the blue pill — the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe.” Morpheus, The Matrix. Remember that? Well you can experience it all by yourself.

Not only does a voiceover reference the exact time you engage in the experience, but you also get treated to different footage from the movie each time you click on one of the pills.

From Movies To Video Games And Beyond

And IndieGala wouldn’t be IndieGala if we don’t mention the Matrix video games. Sure they do make their contribution to the lore and the entire Matrix universe. And it would be a shame not to mention any of them. Of course I’m thinking of the three well liked games from the Matrix franchise. Enter The Matrix, Matrix Online, and The Matrix: Path Of Neo. Each of them is unique and it’s of these three games is worth checking out.

The story In Enter The Matrix is concurrent with that of the film The Matrix Reloaded. And features over an hour of original footage from the movie itself. But the Matrix Online game is the fascinating one. It kinda told us what would happen in Matrix Resurrections, since Morpheus died in the game. And because of that there’s a new actor playing the same role in the 2021 movie. Now as you can probably tell by now, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II plays the role of Morpheus in Matrix Resurrections. And not Lawrence Fishbourne. The actor which we all love and know as Morpheus. But time will tell it this is the same Morpheus character or a different version of it. You’re gonna have to watch the new movie to find out.

One Of The Wachowski’s Is Back! But Not The Other

Indeed. Unlike the previous 3 movies, only Lana Wachowski is credited as the director of the movie. And also, unlike other productions, no second unit was needed during the action sequences. As Lana Wachowski directed all the scenes herself. Additionally, Hugo Weaving was originally approached to reprise his role as Agent Smith. But he had to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts with other films. But it’s been a while since the last Matrix movie. A while indeed. The Matrix Resurrections will be released 18 years after The Matrix Revolutions (2003).

And as for the Wachowski’s… According to Lana Wachowski, her decision to bring back Neo and Trinity for the sequel was inspired by the loss of both of her parents and close friends. Her parents though died only five weeks apart. So the writing process was her way of comforting herself in the face of death. She also defines Neo and Trinity as the two most important characters in her life. For her sister, Lily Wachowski, on the other hand, her decision not to return to The Matrix was due to the grief she was in.

The Matrix Resurrections: What To Expect In December?

The Matrix Resurrections will have its world premiere on December 18, 2021, in San Francisco. And will also stream digitally on the ad-free tier of HBO Max in the United States. For a month only, starting with December 22. And what can the fans expect from the movie? Well, very little is known about the plot, but there is some information. Following the events of The Matrix Revolutions, Neo lives a seemingly ordinary life as Thomas A. Anderson in San Francisco. His therapist prescribes him blue pills similar to the one in the original movie. But now neither he nor Trinity recognize each other. However, Morpheus offers him the red pill and reopens his mind to the world of the Matrix.
