Easter Movies: A Fantastic Selection!

Indeed. Much like the selection in our Spring Scratchy sale, there’s a fine list of Easter movies in this post. From animated to live-action. From old to new beloved classics. Everything is here, and we hope that you’ll enjoy our picks. However, we’d also love to know yours as well. Which are some of your favorite Easter movies? Let us know in the comment section. We’d love to know all about them.

But yeah. Our selection is a mixed bag. A fun and eclectic mixed bag, but still… A mixed bag. Which is why we think these picks fit in an IndieGala post. Here we go! We hope you’ll like our picks!

Ice Age: The Great Egg-Scapade

OK, first things first. Ice Age: The Great Egg-Scapade is technically not a feature-length movie. It’s a TV special that would also qualify as a short movie. And it premiered in 2016 during the Easter season. Furthermore, Ice Age: The Great Egg-Scapade takes place between Continental Drift and Collision Course. But over here, we witness the origins of the first egg hunt. And the creation of popular Easter traditions. With the shenanigans of Sid and the rest of the gang of course. It’s a fun little project to start this list with. And it has roughly the same voice cast as the rest of the movies in the franchise. Well, except Aziz Ansari, whose role as Squint was replaced by Seth Green. Check it out!

Fun fact: There’s a reference to Here Comes Peter Cottontail (1971) in the movie.

Hop

Hop is a mix of live-action and 3D animation. And it’s perfect for the Easter season. First and foremost there’s a cute little bunny in the leading role. And that role is voiced by none other than Russel Brand of course. So, yeah. Hugh is E.B. A young and rebellious bunny who really doesn’t want to follow the family tradition. Of becoming the Easter Bunny. James Marsden, Kaley Cuoco, Gary Cole, Elizabeth Perkins and David Hasselhoff are also in the cast, and yeah. It’s a fun little movie about defying parental expectations, following your dreams and rebellion.  It’s a must-watch for the Easter season.

Fun fact: The legend of the Easter Bunny grew out of German Christian traditions but was popularized by the Brothers Grimm.

Pieces of Easter

Pieces of Easter is a rather unknown indie movie. But at the same time movie deserves to be here thanks to the hilarious and heartwarming nature that it contains. However, at the same time, this is a movie about one arrogant woman’s unlikely journey to get to her parent’s house. For Easter of course. But during all the chaos, she’ll find an unlikely travel companion. A simple stranger who will not make the journey go smoother. It’s an interesting movie nonetheless, and yeah. Deserves to be on this list.

Fun fact: Rather than subject the actor to real chewing tobacco, the props department provided the Woodsman character with a concoction of bubble gum and Nestle’s Quik.

Easter Parade

It’s the oldest movie on this list. But probably one of the finest. And it also has some of the brightest stars in entire Hollywood history. Easter Parade has Judy Garland, Fred Astaire, Peter Lawford and Ann Miller in the cast. And at the same time, it’s a delightful musical that will warm your heart. It’s a romantic and funny story about revenge and the good old „I’ll show her“ moments. But over here, Fred Astaire is a seasoned vaudeville performer who got dumped at the start of the movie. By his partner on stage (Anne Miller) of course. So, he’ll take on another ingénue (Judy Garland) as a sign of revenge, and then the chaos will ensue. Easter Parade is warm, funny and with incredible performances. It’s also a can’t miss film. A true Hollywood classic.

Fun fact: Judy Garland’s husband, Vincente Minnelli, was originally slated to direct, but her psychiatrist advised them not to work together.

It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown

I’ve started this post with an Easter TV special. So, it’s only fitting to end it with one as well.

It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown is of course all about The Peanuts. They’re preparing for Easter, but all in their own clumsy way will great Easter differently. While Snoopy is shopping for a new home for Woodstock, Peppermint Patty is having a difficult time making Easter eggs. With Marcie of course, who hasn’t the slightest idea of how to do that. It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown is a nostalgic special for me, and I grew up with this clumsy bunch of Peanuts. It’s a must-watch for Easter.

Fun fact: When the gang visits the mall, a sign proclaims it is 246 days until Christmas. Assuming the film’s events take place in the year of its release, the date is April 23rd, 1974.
