Crusader Kings 3

If there’s one good thing that 2020 delivered was Crusader Kings III. Crusader Kings 3, the grand strategy game by Paradox Interactive is the long-awaited sequel to Crusader Kings 2.

Crusader Kings 3: What’s Old And New?

Much like the predecessors, Crusader Kings 3 is a dynasty simulator game set in the Middle Ages. You can start in either 867 or 1066 and play until the year 1453. And of course, among the usual court drama, dynastic feuds, and marriage alliances there are some new and exciting things. For example, the heads of dynasties are responsible for legitimizing bastards. But in essence, it’s a game about individuals, more than anything. And that’s what’s so exciting about it.

Is It A Worthy Successor?

Yes. Yes, it is. In fact, this is one of the best games of the year. At the same time, it’s much more polished than the 2012 game. Not to mention the attention to detail is incredible. Indeed there is a vast improvement both stylistically and mechanically. And yes, you might get hooked on Crusader Kings 3 just like you would with any other dru. It’s that addictive, especially if you’re fond of the Medieval history setting. If you’re a beginner to the series, it’s always good to check out the serviceable tutorial, since you will most probably “suck at it” (it was even nominated in the Steam Awards in that particular category). It’s very helpful and it will make things a lot clearer, right at the start. But after that, you get to enjoy the intricate details of Medieval politics and warfare.

Crusader Kings 3

They’re delicate to balance for sure. But this is a game that puts a lot more focus on the person in charge, so you’ll have better chances of connecting to your character. Than despising it of course. But a long-lasting character can be a flawed and layered individual. As with any other ruler, the stress and heavy burden of the crown is inevitable. So do your best, and make the Crusader Kings proud. You’ll have a blast.
