Bus Simulator 18

Bus Simulator 18 is next on my agenda. And I for one cannot be happier about it. Why? Well, first and foremost it’s a first for me. Yes, I still have firsts, and the bus-inspired post is another first for me. I haven’t written about buses before. Motorcycles sure. Cars, of course. Hell even space ships. Check out that one here. But this basic road vehicle, suitable for public transportation is a new topic for me. And especially the movies with buses in the basic premise. However, before I could go on with this post, I must mention one particular video game. A video game that inspired this post.

Bus Simulator 18: What’s It All About?

Developed by stillalive studios and published by Astragon Entertainment, Bus Simulator 18 is a bus simulator game. And with this game, you get to experience up-close the exciting everyday life of a bus driver. In a vast and freely drivable urban area. As a bus driver in the 12 different districts. You’ll also face the challenges of the traffic in a big city and everything that entails. Not to mention, the game allows players to drive eight licensed vehicles from four different bus manufacturers. And here’s the fun part. You get to create routes, build your own buses. Also, you get to create bus liveries, design new maps and share them with the community.

Bus Simulator is currently available for purchase here at IndieGala. And on top of that it’s currently on sale as well. Hurry up and get it while it’s hot.

Just take a look at some of the cool Steam user comments about Bus Simulator 18:

– I’m absolutely goated at this game- only killed like 10 people. 10/10 – says Caitlyn.v1.

– Really nice game to relax. For people who love buses, is the best game ever made. – adds DraziV.

-This is amazing. From graphics to realism. – mentions Jimlete.

Bus Simulator 18 And Some Cool Movie Selection

Yup. As I mentioned earlier in this post I’ve written about cars, trains, planes and spaceships. But up until now, not a single post about buses. I’m sad to say. However, that’s all going to end right here and now, because I’ve got 5 cool movies with buses. And yes, they’re both old and new. They’re also a nice eclectic mix of well-known blockbusters and rather unknown indies. Oh, not to mention the movies are both from the USA and abroad. So, without further ado… Let’s start. Which flicks made the cut? Scroll down and find out.

Speed

Probably one of the most nail-biting and exciting movies. Not just from the ’90s but ever. And a movie that I proudly put on my Favorite Keanu Reeves movies list. Why? Because it’s god damn awesome movie that’s why. And at the same time, it’s a movie that takes place on a speeding bus (in about 90% of the time). A wacky terrorist put a bomb on a LA bus, and that bomb will go off if the bus stops. So, the ride for the people in the bus must continue, and they’ll have to count on Keanu for the rescue. Oh, and did I mention that Sandra Bullock is driving it? Speed is a must for this list, and it’s one of the movies I can watch over and over again. I’ll probably never get bored of it. How about you?

Fun fact: Sandra Bullock actually learned to drive a bus for the film, passing her test on her first attempt.

The Big Bus

The Big Bus is probably the oldest movie on this list. But it’s one of the most underrated too. Not to mention it also has a great cast. Indeed, some of Hollywood’s A-listers are here in this disaster/comedy spoof of a movie. Stockard Channing, Ned Beatty, José Ferrer and René Auberjonois occupy just some of the roles. But over here a nuclear-powered bus is going non-stop from New York City, New York to Denver, Colorado. Furthermore, the bus is plagued by disasters and this is another cinematic bus that will get an unlikely driver as well.

Fun fact: Stockard Channing claims she nearly drowned for real during the soda fountain overflow scene.

The Chaperone

The Chaperone is a movie by WWE Studios. And it has a WWE star in the lead role as well. Indeed, Paul “Triple H” Levesque stars in The Chaperone as Raymond “Ray” Bradstone. A talented getaway driver who will go through a change of plans during his last heist. Instead of dealing with the robbery aftermath, he’ll end up with a bus filled with kids. But Triple H is in good company here. Ariel Winter stars as his daughter, while Annabeth Gish plays his on-screen ex-wife. Yeardley Smith and Enrico Colantoni are in the supporting roles in The Chaperone. And although this is not the best movie on this list, it’s fun and does have a bus in the middle of the story. So I had to include it.

Fun fact: When Goldy(Kevin Rankin) puts Sally (Ariel Winter) in the cab he says “smell you later”. This is the catchphrase of Nelson the bully on the Simpsons. Miss Miller is played by Yeardley Smith who plays Lisa on the Simpsons. Coincidentally Lisa was a one-time love interest of Nelson’s.

The Sweet Hereafter

Unlike the previous movies, The Sweet Hereafter is an emotional drama. And at the same time, a drama that deals with the ramifications of a horrible bus accident. Furthermore, the movie was inspired by a real-life bus accident. The one in Alton, Texas, in 1989, in which a bus crash killed 21 students. And an accident that leads to multiple lawsuits afterward. Much like with the rest of the movies on this list, The Sweet Hereafter has a great cast as well. Ian Holm, Sarah Polley and Bruce Greenwood are in the cast, while Atom Egoyan is behind the camera. The Sweet Hereafter is a fantastic movie and should be on this list.

Fun fact: Atom Egoyan was inspired to do this movie by a novel his wife Arsinée Khanjian gave him as a Christmas gift.

Give Me Liberty

Give Me Liberty is both the most recent movie on this list. And the least known of them all I presume. But it’s probably one that you will never forget. It’s about a bus driver, a group of senior citizens and one hell of a bus ride. Furthermore, the movie has heartfelt humor and charm, and yes. A bus in the middle of the story. It’s a great movie that of course, deserves to be on this list.

Fun fact: At one point Donald Sutherland was considered to play Vic’s grandfather. But it eventually fell through as he didn’t speak Russian. And the filmmakers decided to cast unknown/local actors and non-actors.
