Why New Year Episodes You Might Ask?

Well, as we mentioned earlier, we wanted to say goodbye to 2021 (and say hello to 2022) with a nice, cheerful and optimistic spirit. And what better way to do that than with a nice selection of the finest episodes that have a New Year’s theme in them. Here you’ll find episodes from some of the most beloved sitcoms and comedy series. But which ones made the cut? Scroll down to find out.

The One With The Routine- Friends

Let’s face it. The One With The Routine was a good New Year’s episode. But the pinnacle of the episode was Ross and Monica’s dance routine at the Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. It’s hilarious as it’s silly. But that’s the whole point. We get a glimpse of the sibling rivalry and in the rest of the episode, we see Chandler’s failed attempts to find Monica’s presents for the rest of the gang. The episode aired in December 1999, and yes. It’s the perfect send-off to the old century as well.

Fun fact: After the countdown finishes, Ross and Monica can be seen in the background dancing, even though there is no music.

RDWRER- Frasier

Frasier really knew how to make a good New Year’s episode. But RDWRER involved alternative plans to celebrate the new Millennium. But the episode involved plenty of canceled plans failed trips and a mix-up with Winnebago RV’s. There’s also the hilarity of Niles Craine’s affection for Daphne and when all of this happens on New Year’s Eve… Then you know you have one funny Frasier episode.

Fun fact: Rebecca Schull had earlier been a regular cast member on Wings (1990), sister series to Cheers (1982) and Frasier.

Happy New Dick! – Third Rock From The Sun

Another 90’s episode. And another hilarious one of that. But this time it’s from the cult series Third Rock From The Sun. And as the title suggests, it’s all about Dick Solomon (John Lithgow). He feels un-accomplished and contemplates making something (on New Year’s Eve) so that the previous year counts. The rest of the Solomon family is plotting their own kind of New Year’s fun. Yes. Happy New Dick is a great episode and deserves your attention.

Fun fact: Opening theme music has Christmas-oriented instruments and bells.

Space Pilot 3000- Futurama

One of the best pilot episodes ever, don’t you think? Space Pilot 3000 sets up the plot for the rest of the series and tells us how Fry ended up in the year 3000. The episode focuses on the cryogenic freezing of the series protagonist, Philip J. Fry. And the events when he awakens 1,000 years in the future. It’s a funny yet emotional episode and it’s a must-watch.

Fun fact: Matt Groening named Turanga Leela after Louise Jameson’s character in the long-running British science fiction series Doctor Who (1963).

The Millennium- Seinfeld

This wouldn’t be a proper list if we didn’t put a Seinfeld episode, right? Correct. In this episode, Kramer and Newman plan rival millennium parties. While George tries to get fired in the most spectacular manner possible. And Jerry? Well ends up in a three-way struggle with his girlfriend and his girlfriend’s stepmother. Over what numbers they appear at on each other’s speed dial.

Fun fact: The scenes with Jerry and Valerie’s mother parody The Graduate.

Are You There God? It’s Me, Jesus- South Park

Last but certainly not least. The boys from South Park really know how to deliver a great New Year episode that’s for sure. But in this one, Stan worries that he is maturing more slowly than his friends. Meanwhile, Jesus feels pressured to perform a miracle at the start of the new millennium. And well, you can probably guess what follows next. Chaos and hilarious mayhem.

Fun fact: This is the first appearance of God.
