TV shows are a real treat here at IndieGala. Which is why we’re hyped about the 2022 TV shows that are headed our way. Indeed. 2022 is going to be a good year for every TV fan we just know it. And despite sticking mainly to movies and video games, we are once again honoring the best new projects on the small screen.

We do love a good TV as well. So understandably after honoring the best and most anticipated movies of 2022, we should do the same for the TV shows. Hey, it’s been sort of tradition over the years. Sure we do like a good review every now and again. But we also try to look into the future and present the best of the best. However, we simply cannot go any further with this article without mentioning the cool games we do have.

Yes, some of them are also from the future so don’t worry.

Those 2022 TV Shows: Who Are They?

Yeah. Let’s deviate a bit from the games, sales and the lovely offers from IndieGala. And let’s get back to the topic at hand. The TV shows we’re bound to binge and devour in 2022. There are some biopics, some fantasy TV shows and even some super-hero ones. Which ones made the cut? Scroll down to find out.

Peacemaker

Creator: James Gunn

Release date: January 13, 2022

Peacemaker has already started its run on the small screen, but it’s from 2022 sooooo… It’s perfectly logical to start our list with it. Don’t you think? But yeah. Peacemaker is a TV show based on the DC Comics character Peacemaker. Or rather. Christopher Smith / Peacemaker. You might remember him? From last year’s The Suicide Squad movie?  He’s a merciless killer who believes in achieving peace at any cost. Well, John Cena reprises the role of the Peacemaker. While Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma offer support to the rest of the cast. Don’t miss it.

Fun fact: James Gunn wrote the entire first season in 8 weeks during COVID quarantine out of pure boredom.

She-Hulk

Creator: Jessica Gao

Release date: TBA 2022

Or rather She/Hulk. But yeah. From DC Comics, we’re going straight to Marvel. But yeah. She-Hulk is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. And it has Tatiana Maslany in the titular role. That of Jennifer Walters / She-Hulk of course. A lawyer who specializes in cases involving superhumans. And a character who can become a large, powerful, green-hued version of herself. Quite similar to her cousin Bruce Banner. Mark Ruffalo is back as Mr. Banner and so is Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky / Abomination.

Fun fact: This series is part of phase 4 of the MCU.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Creator: Joby Harold

Release date: 2022

Set ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith (2005), the series has one of the most beloved Star Wars characters in the center of the story. Obi-Wan Kenobi. Ewan McGregor reprises his role as Obi-Wan, but this time on the small screen. And in six episodes too. But yeah. Obi-Wan will take you on a roller-coaster of a ride. A Jedi Master who survived Order 66 and now lives in exile on the planet Tatooine. Not to mention watches over Luke Skywalker. Hayden Christensen returns as Darth Vader while Joel Edgerton returns as Owen Lars.

Fun fact: Liam Neeson has expressed interest in reprising his role as Qui-Gon Jinn.

Andor

Creator: Tony Gilroy

Release date: 2022

Another Star Wars project. And another prequel to a Star Wars film. This time it’s Rogue One and it has Cassian Andor at the center of the story. Diego Luna portrayed Andor back in the 2016 movie, but now he’ll be back for the same role. This time for 12 episodes in total. Set five years before the events of Rogue One (2016), the series follows rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion. Stellan Skarsgård is also in the TV show and so is Forest Whitaker who returns as Saw Gerrera.

Fun fact: Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk will reprise their roles of Cassian Andor and K-2SO.

How I Met Your Father

Creators: Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger

Release date: January 18, 2022

A sitcom and a standalone sequel to How I Met Your Mother. With Hillary Duff in the lead role. Sex and The City’s alumni Kim Cattrall is also in the cast. As the future version of Duff’s character Sophie that is. And in this sequel, Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are. What they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options. Are you excited?

Fun fact: This series is the second attempt at a spin-off from “How I Met Your Mother (2005),”. The first ended at the pilot and was titled “How I Met Your Dad (2014).”

The Dropout

Creator: It’s based on The Dropout by Rebecca Jarvis

Release date: 2022

The Dropout is an American television drama series based on the podcast The Dropout by Rebecca Jarvis and ABC Audio. It’s also about the rise and fall of Elizabeth Holmes and her company, Theranos. With Amanda Seyfried in the lead role of course. Stephen Fry, Kate Burton and Laurie Metcalf are also part of the cast.

Fun fact: Kate McKinnon was originally announced in the lead role but dropped out due to a scheduling conflict. Amanda Seyfried replaced her.

Pam & Tommy

Creators: Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen

Premiere date: February 8, 2022

Here’s another TV biopic. A television miniseries based on Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee and actress Pamela Anderson. And a TV show that’s focuses on the infamous sex tape that started circulating in the mid-’90s.  Lily James stars as Pamela Anderson while Tommy Lee is played by Sebastian Stan. But yeah. Pam & Tommy Follows the story of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee’s relationship. Going back to the whirlwind romance that started with them marrying. After only knowing each other for 96 hours in 1995.

Fun fact: Tommy Lee approved of the series being made and discussed it with Sebastian Stan.

The Last Of Us

Creators: Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann

Release date: 2022

A TV series based on one hell of a cool game? Yup. Based on the 2013 video game of the same name developed by Naughty Dog, the series will follow Joel (Pedro Pascal). A smuggler tasked with escorting the teenage Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across the post-apocalyptic United States. It will also feature Tommy (Gabriel Luna), Joel’s younger brother and a former soldier. And we’ll get to see Bella Ramsey as Ellie too.

Fun fact: According to Luna, the show’s outbreak takes place in 2003. However, in the game, it occurs in 2013.

2022 TV Shows: Expect More From Lord Of The Rings

Lord Of The Rings

Creator: J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay

Release date: September 2, 2022

Here’s something interesting for the fans of LOTR. A TV series based on the iconic books by J.R.R.Tolkien. A TV show that got 3 more seasons before even the first one premiered. Indeed. The first eight-episode season is expected to premiere on Prime Video on September 2, 2022. The series is set in the Second Age of Middle-earth. Thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Furthermore, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters as they confront the re-emergence of evil in Middle-earth.

Fun fact: The series is expected to be the most expensive TV show in history, with Amazon expected to spend at least $1 billion on its production.

House Of The Dragon

Creator: George R. R. Martin and Ryan J. Condal

Release date: 2022

A ten-episode series from the creator of Game Of Thrones? Yes, please. And a prequel series of the iconic HBO series too? Not bad for 2022. We’ll take it. House of the Dragon is based on Martin’s 2018 novel Fire & Blood. And is set two hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones. Paddy Considine, Olivia CookeEmma D’Arcy and Matt Smith are some of the actors in the series. But we’ll just have to wait until the first season.

Fun fact: Matt Smith had starred opposite Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) in Terminator Genisys (2015).
